I always liked what Jerry played on pedal steel. He had his own sound even as a newbie and his playing fit and enhanced the songs, regardless of what he lacked as far as technical proficiency.

He also inspired young people to become interested in the pedal steel guitar and the country side of music.

I like that about him too :)

Thanks for that link Jim. There more good stuff on that site about Clarence White and others too! As far as the Doug Sahm and friends, I wish the steel was up a little in the mix. Good ol' rough and gritty hippie honkytonk! :D

There's also some Doug Sahm tracks from 1975 featuring one of our deceased forum members, Harry Hess.

I love his version of the Stones Wild Horses and I had never heard the Christmas song Sliding into Christmas before. Did any see the film about makeing the Union by Leon and Elton John. Great film lots of great musicans and Leon has brain surgary and comes back to the studio.

" People actually made money in the music business. "

Well, the managers and the record companies did. After finishing Dr. John's autobiography, not sure many of the musicians made much.
