STEEL GUITAR WEBSITES- Please link us to the best ones.

Post by Zane King »

First off, to BOB - I'm at a loss where to put this topic. :? You may actually want to disallow this because of the promotional issues raised below. Your call.

As many of you know, I've recently devoted a good bit of my energy to advocating the promotion and development of the PSG. While I have been busy studying and presenting tuning concepts, structural opinion, musical expansion, playing techniques, and just the general state of our instrument within the music world I have discovered a need for more information.

I walk on the edge here of possibly offending people but I have realized in my career that sometimes being challenged is exactly what is needed. Plus, I also am aware that my analysis is possibly incomplete and I only need to be pointed in the right direction to affirm that these concerns are either merited or unfounded.

Simply put, I'm ASKING for your help. I have cruised through website after website that is related to the steel guitar. Much of this pursuit is because I'm launching my own website and certainly my successful launch is dependent upon what already is in existence around my subject matter.

With one exception (the one you are now logged into), I've not found a lot of great websites.

Please point out to me every website you can that promotes any aspect of the steel guitar. Above I yield to bOb to close this topic if he must but my hope is that we might be able to accent some of those that are doing this very basic marketing tool with excellence.

VERY RESPECTFULLY & CONSTRUCTIVELY SUBMITTED,

Zane

Hi Zane. It was good to meet you at the convention this weekend. You might like to visit my website: www.steelguitarjazz.com , where we promote one aspect of steel guitar.
Best wishes,
Jim

Good evening Jim! There is a comma in your link you give below. Edit that if possible so others can link over to you. I did make it to your site. Very nice. I look forward to digging in deeper.

I was able to catch a bit of your program in the Jazz Room. Very well done.

Take care my friend,

Zane

I've moved it to the Steel on the Web section of the Forum.

Zane, you should check out Charles Tilly's site with MP3 files from many of our members.

You might want to contribute a couple of tunes yourself.

My website is dated but I hang on to it because it is my final and only connection to the music world that I once knew. If anyone wants to check it out before it goes away forever, go here:

Zane, I'm presuming you aren't really looking for links to PERSONAL web sites, but to informative, instructional and promotional ones.
you said :-
Please point out to me every website you can that promotes any aspect of the steel guitar.
Well, the European Steel Guitar Forum is just a forum but it's promoting steel guitar, so I suppose it qualifies..as does the European Steel Guitar Hall of Fame and also the Chanos International Steel Guitar Festival site.

Greg Cutshaw has a ton of good stuff on his site... tab, product reviews, home recording information, maintenance procedures, etc. Lots of good stuff.

Zane, I am excited to see your interest in expanding the scope of the pedal steel. I live the new sounds and tunings coming from players that are willing to take the steel "out of the Box" as they say. That doesn't mean I am don't like traditional playing as I surely do.

Keep up the great work.

Blessings, Albert
