New Clip of the Week 07/12/09

Post by Walter Stettner »

Good Morning,

This week we are going back to the 1950s with a great instrumental version of the old standard "Sweet Georgia Brown". Some hot pickin' there! :)

Enjoy!

Kind Regards, Walter

May be Speedy West on steel and Jethro Burns on mandolin.

I think they were called the Country All Stars back then: Jerry, Chet and Homer. I always liked their version of Darkness On The Delta from one of that series of albums.

Regards, Paul

Man, that's good. Is it Speedy West w/ Joe Maphis on mandolin?

...and Paul is right. It's the "Country All Stars" with a track that was recorded at the RCA studio in New York(!) in 1953. Chet Atkins on Lead Guitar, Jerry Byrd on Steel, Henry "Homer" Haynes on Guitar, Kenneth "Jethro" Burns on Mandolin and Charles B. Greane on Bass.

Kind Regards, Walter

Actually, Walter, I did get it wrong on the mandolin part!! Trouble is, I have been laughing at those two guys (Homer and Jethro...) for so many years, I still confuse them in my own mind ! I was saying that Homer played the lead part on mandolin and that was, of course, Jethro. Sorry... :( :( :(

Regards, Paul
