Hi Vernon-hardly noticable betwee the two of them , and your MSA had the Bill Lawerence pickup, which I used to have and they are good. That must be why guys put on new strings, to get a little edge. I have heard a lot of good things about Zum, but never got the chance to have one. Anyway, great sound on that MSA and very fine playing...al.:):)

Charles, thank you again for keeping this site available for steel players to display their work.

Oklahoma is suffering from another ice-storm, so I have been remembering my visits to the "Islands" and one of my theme recordings, "Kailua-Kona Stroll", so I have sent it to you to replace my current song.

It's pure vanilla and has a hokey surf track in the background, but I had fun recording it because I did it on my little six-string Artisan.

Thanks again my friend,

Gene

Fabulous job Gene on your song. Charles has posted my song for Feb. called Deep Water. My friend Susan Trujillo has her new song posted called Harbor Lights and she is getting to be an awsome sounding steel guitarist ...give her a listen.

I am trying to catch up on most of the new songs on Tilley's site..

John McGlothlin-Your "Deep Water", nice pickin and chords. Was that on a non-Pedal. sounded good.
I played Susan's "Harbor Lights", she is getting better every time I hear her.

Gene Jones-Your "Kailua-Kona Stroll",Made me feel like I was in Hawaii, even the waves of the ocean. Nice authentic sound.

CrowBear-"Instrumental Jive- Different,nice playing.

Terry Sutton-"Almost persuaded" , smooth E9 of an old favorite. nice sound.

Buddy Elkin-"Masquerade", A complex old pop tune, that is usally not heard on E9. Fine Job on it.

Charles Tilley-"What a Friend we have In Jesus". Just a beautful version of one of our favoorites. Smooth and great tone. And thank you Tilley for setting up this website so we can hear the members play their recordings.

Mine for January is an old Jazz tune in a tribute to Duke Ellington "Sophisticated Lady" on my old Gibson Electra-Harp. He was a great musician and songwriter...al.:) 8) 8) 8)

Thanks Al for the kind comments. I used the C6th tuning on my pedal steel on that song but it is mainly done without pedals.

My New song for Feb. "Cocquette"

Post by Al Marcus »

Charles Tilley just put my new song for FEB. "Cocquette", a good old swing tune known by most Western Swing players, in C6..
This is also a good swinging song for E9th tuning, using the A pedal a lot.
Thanks again to Tilley for providing this website for all to hear the various styles and fine recordings of the players on this Forum....al.:) 8)

I've just sent Charles my version of "One has my name".
I suppose it will be a day or two before it's on the page.
I enjoyed doing the song, and I hope you'll like it too! :D

Chuck Christensen "An Affair to Remember"

Post by Al Marcus »

Hi guys, you should clik on Tilley's site and hear Chuck's Song "An Affair to Remember". He did a nice job on that old Classic Pop tune on his S12, E6 tuning. I guess he has to play his 8 string non-Pedal, now.I dont know if he gets much breakage, but he has a High B (the Fifth) on top first string. Just Great...al.:):)

Downloaded Songs

Post by Al Marcus »

I just downloaded most of the songs on Charles Tilley's Website for Feb. 2009. All very fine recordings, sounds good to me.
Charles Christensen's song was very good on that E6 tuning and Non-Pedal, great chords, etc.

He used to play pedals until he had some problem with his knees, I hope he can get back to playing pedals again, although he is doing great with that 8 string non-Pedal. Good luck Chuck. Great going , Guys, and thanks to Tilley for making it possible..al.:):)

Mr. Tilley

Thanks in advance for posting my tribute to Tom Brumley on your website. He inspired so many of us during his career and I'm sure he will be an inspiration to pickers fat into the future.

My new contribution to Tilley's site- "Stardust"

Post by Al Marcus »

Thanks Charles,Tilley just put my new song for March on the MAIN ALPHA Page-an old Classic Standard "Stardust". But I get 2 for 1 this month, on the bottom of the page listing New for the month, Tilley put "Unforgettable", nice.
This month's tune "Stardust" is off a Video Tape converted to DVD. Drew Howard wants to help me put them on YouTube, if I ever get the DVD out to him. I don't do anything Fast anymore, just slow or Half Fast. LOL...al.:):) :D 8)

Charles has posted a song that my friend Susan Trujillo did called "I'm So Lonesome I Could Cry". She does a great job on this Hank Williams classic and she is becoming a wonderful steel guitarist. Take a listen to her work. Charles, thank you for all of your work in keeping this website going and thank all of the fabulous players on here.
