Hello
Thanks to you guys I'll be getting my first lap steel shortly. I've been playing standard guitar for years and am a proud owner of a Bourgeois Custom Slope D.
Along with being a fan of Greg Liesz (Thanks to Matthew Sweet and Chuck Prophet) and a few other steel and pedal steel players, I was lucky enough to spend some time chatting and listening to Sally Van Meter at a Bluegrass workshop a few years ago, she made me almost cry with a beautiful piece where the guitarist was playing DADGAD (I have it somewhere on Minidisc I'll have to load it up and share)
I've pretty much made my mind up on an Fouke Industrial lap steel (probably an 8 string Bent Rail) as unlike over the other side of the pond there aren't that many options over here for lapsteels new or used. I've just got to decide on pickup(s)
I've already lost hours and hours searching and reading the awesome amount of knowledge and advice on here, so hopefully any questions I ask won't be the normal newbie questions that are asked over and over (I know how annoying that can be)
anyway I'll stop rambling now

No Problem Matt, I thought the pun didn't need elaborating being as you are in the Land of Saints and Scholars, you've already partially admitted to not being the former so the latter MUST apply. Therefore my presumption was as stated..

I maybe in The land of saints and Scholars but I'm also in the place known as 'The city of pubs', I think this certainly takes precedent.

Welcome Matt. Regarding Fouke Industrial Lap Steels, I own three and couldn't be happier. Chris not only makes a great instrument, he's a customer-oriented guy, too. I have an Indy Rail, and Indy Rail with a coil splitter, and a Baritone.
