Re: Tuning wrench

Did Sierrea make a tuning wrench for the Hex's in the changerend. Just acquired a U12 Olympic and I'd like to have one. Ty It is larger than today's hex tuners. I went to a hardware store and got a long-barrel socket, and wrapped it with grip tape. Works really well. If you have a socket set you ca...

The "Split Method" of lowering string-6 a full-step then raising it back up a half-step, doesn't work on Push Pulls.
I have two Push Pulls so I lower G#'s a half step.
On an Excel, you can have both if you want.

I would just go with the G#-to-G.
You can slam that lever and be dead on.
I think the reason this change gets Pa-Pood so much by Steel Players is that it's a guitar-player-knowedge based change.
I think it's great.
I also like Rickys take on it, in his copedant.

Traditionally there are several other methods of playing minors.

Hi Justin, Please let us know if you are able to get the split-screw to reach the changer-finger, so that it is now the Stop for your E-to-Eb(s). Just curious if it works on your Excel. I basically don't use the split-screws on my Excel Superb because they are difficult to access with an allen-wrenc...

I would use the exisitng parts on pedals 4 and 5, to be pedals 5 and 6 of and S12U. So the pedals would be: A B C 5 6 Pedal4 already lowers string7 F# to F. Put the other change on string1 F# to G and you have P5 of a Universal. Pedal5 already lower string8 to D, so just remove that string6 change a...

I played Steve's new Steel this past weekend.
It is very cool!
I was able to get used to the 6-string method pretty quick.
It's totally do-able. Any other needed note is within two frets.
It was very fun to play!
Sounded really good!
Good Steelin' to you, Steve!

Yes. Just think of every tuning as Universal.
AB pedals and E-to-Eb pedal/lever, and you can play pretty much any song.
Most Uni's are closer associated with having 7x5 pedals/levers.

Sonny, fwiw, In my own experiments with my own Excel long scale S12U, the 12 always outlasted the 11.
I change that string every few weeks before it breaks, and change the whole set every few months.

Also, I play a U 12 so there could be a B6th change to add. To experiment with a quick B6th change on the C-pedal, Tune the String-4 change so it doesn't do anything, and tune the string-5 change so it only raises from B-to-C. Now in B6th mode, that pedal is analogous to the E9 F-lever. You could t...

The D#-C# change is the coolest thing ever. My findings were different. I know there's a cool Emmons-split lick associated with it, but it's not worth the half-stop feel issue on the D, during my gigs. I'd rather use a slant to get that note. With that said, I would always like to see some vids of ...

I took that C# change off of that lever, because, on the bandstand, I use the D note WAY more than the C#. Now I can slam that lever from D#-to-D no problem (it also lowers string-9 from D-to-C#). I will happily leave the licks associated with that string-2 D#-to-C# change to others (I don't have an...
