I second the Lectrosonics wireless systems for performance. I lived in Albuquerque for 8 years and was near the factory, met some of the engineers. In my opinion, they make the best performance wireless equipment made. We used their stuff in the local live theaters--up to 25 mics at a time! No dropo...

I’m just starting feeling confident on the C6 (B6th) side. I Play universal tuning, so flying back-and-forth between ninth and sixth tunings becomes fun. Love the versatility. Of course, universal probably has limitations, but I won’t get there in this life....

Weber put together a dead-ringer copy of the JBL 130-k series for my Webb amp. It is their California 15” with a high power coil which is not standard. Emulates the k series in sound and power handling. The aluminum frame is lighter than the JBL and the speaker weighs in at 12.6 pounds. Big alnico...

OK Glenn, the answer is yes. I will be releasing the “On Board Ultimate Mic” early next year. It is permanently mounted without having to modify your cabinet much. In our trials, the guys running sound love it. Sorry, no more details... awaiting patent pending status.

Weber California 15” with their 150 watt bass speaker coil. A dead ringer for the JBL 130 series. Talk to the guys at Weber and they’ll help. Works well with my Webb 6-14.

Had an interesting fix of a similar problem. As a solid state amp with large power transistors heats, old solderjoints also expand and have semi-open connections around the power transistors. We were able to treat what was a similarly frustrating change of output power by simple reflowing the solder...

I have done sound design and understand why sound people want a direct out. Two reasons: 1. It’s easier.... there is no setup with a microphone in front of the amp. 2. It’s easier...... That said, I have to ask WHY would one spend extra money for an Eminence special steel speaker, or a custom ma...

Reel to reel to CD

I had the dubious chore of doing this with a 1955 family reunion recording and a 1966 music recording. Wow....getting past the old tape was problematic! To make sure they wouldn't just fall apart, I warmed both tapes for a couple of hours to make sure they were dry...(lowest oven setting about 140 d...

Drew An acoustic guitar maker once told me that the true sound of an instrument is not in your lap while you play, but well out and away from the player. That little piece of advice has never let me down. When I play through an amplifier, it is may own "rule" that I get as far away as my c...

MSA 5 knee levers and 8 pedals, Fessenden 5 knee levers and 7 pedals. The Fessenden needs a little work, like a setup to finish the job. It might be th...

Webb

I have an older Webb 614 from the 70s. It is black. It works well, has a new spring reverb, but, like all older amps, it has a a 60 cycle hum. There is no sound like the Webb when you play your steel through it. I HAVE to sell because of my financial situation right now. I really don't want to sell ...

Blue colored, universal, single neck, Carbon Fiber, I bought this from a lawyer in Texas who "didn't get" the Universal Setup. I just can't use this wonderful instrument any longer. I'd rather sell it to my brothers or sisters here on Pedal Steel Guitar Forum. Asking $4250 with a Texas cas...

I've gotta say that I learned more about guitar in a two week master class in the 1970's than what I had struggled with in the previous 15 years. I still get out the notebook with my scribblings in it and learn to this day! Sometimes it's a right hand thing, sometimes where you play on the fretboard...

Very impressive stuff. Even with my Air Force training in servo systems, it seemed to me that this would be just an idea and wouldn't be very musical. I met Buck Reid and talked about the Peavey 112 and he always uses it with Lyle Lovett. Apparently no problem there. I think Jack Stoner hit it, Line level is not instrument level on a house board.

Who plays a 12 String

Never played anything else. Started with an MSA Extended E-9th and last year got an MSA Millennium with universal setup. Sometimes I'd like to try somebody's E9th 10 string but I play a Day setup and aren't many out there.
Anybody play a Day setup in Albuquerque? LOL

I started learning on an MSA Classic 12 String that had extended E9th. Jeff Newman came to California a couple of times (Thanks to Tom Bradshaw) and it made learning the steel easy at first. The change to E9/B6 Universal was pretty easy because Jeff had tab for the "C6th Sound" from back t...

More than one...

From the time I was 10, I played 6 string. As I got older, I developed a philosophy that was more logical than fun. I used to think that ONE of each kind of guitar would be OK. By that I mean ONE classical nylon string, ONE really good Steel String and ONE electric. That way, I could play in a band ...
