Thanks Steve.. Well, I guess I ran into some strange things, too. First I measured 3 ohms, then infinite, then 4.5 or so. When it read 4.5, I quickly and carefully put everything back together, and.... drum roll please.... Now it works fine. After this experience, maybe I should open up a repair bus...

Check, check, and.. check.
Thanks to everyone for your responses. Very interesting input about strings. First, as a matter of clarification, I mis-typed my first post - it is strings 5 and 6 that are dead, not 4 and 5. Over the weekend, I changed the strings. Nothing. Moved the magnet around (only one there with a dummy on th...

I hope my word choice wasn't confusing. I don't think older strings could account for this kind of drastic differnce between the strings. There must be some malfunction in the pickup. I just don't know enough to figure out whether it's worthwhile to hold on to this thing and fix it or return it. I p...

What does one or two dead strings mean for my pickup?
I just bought an old supro lap steel with the string-through pickup. Unfortunately, I had buy it long distance and was unable to inspect it before hand. Upon plugging it in, I found that the 4th and 5th strings have remarkably less volume than the others. It is very obvious. I tested it in two amps ...

George, I'm no expert, but it seems to me that all the plastic plates were the same and they were only used in the wartime era. I have no idea how many are still in circulation. I would wager a guess that the plates would fit any pre-war (metal plates) or wartime (plastic) guitar that had volume and...

I'll go on record here to say I absolutely love mine. I have the Dobro tweed style, 10 inch, 12 watt. It looks almost identical to Rick Stratton's. I use it with a Fender Champ and with a Rickenbacher B6. I've also used it in rehearsal with my Stringmaster. I've used it mic'd and not, clean and dirt...

Re: plastic molds
I'm not sure how I can help George or someone else "get 'er done," but I'd LOVE see replacement plates available for my B6, too! Please let's keep this discussion going!

My Fender Dulcimer!
Interesting post! About two weeks ago, I was playing my Fender Champ with our Chicago/Delta blues band. During a break, someone in the audience approached with a puzzled look and asked if I was playing a dulcimer! Living in a place where the steel guitar is a very rare sight, I'm always entertained ...

Thanks Jerry! I got mine in the mail before I even realized I bought one! Now that's quick shipping! But seriously, a great bar! My Stringmaster agrees! Thanks a million!

Stringmaster sticky legs and cleanup
Well, I did it. I joined the Stringmaster club and I'm awful excited. A D8 came in the mail yesterday and it needs just a little TLC. I need some advice. Seems like a lot of people have trouble with loose legs, but one of mine is really sticky - difficult to lengthen it after the locking mechanism h...

Botched Fishman Nashville pickup install?
Does this strike anyone else as strange or wrong? I just had the new Fishman pickup installed in my Beard. I haven't had the opportunity to plug into a PA yet, but did plug into my Blues Jr. - probably not the ideal test situation( ?). Pretty cool, but to my ears, with EQ set at middle for each cont...

Please keep us posted Steinar! I play an old Champ, but it's my first and only electric guitar, so I have nothing to compare it too. I can say I struggle sometimes finding a tone I like, but I sometimes chalk this up to my lack of experience on the electric. I'm intersted in hearing about your exper...

Lapdancer Redneck while standing?
Hi All. After seeing Steinar Gregertsen's recent post with his "Lapsquire" :whoa: (nice work, Steinar!), I began to wonder: Does anyone have any experience or opinions about playing these creations when standing? I've seen pics of Jerry Douglas playing them and the "angle of attack&qu...

I'd like to thank everyone for all the information and opinions. Regarding adjusting the tone with the amp, I'm new to the world of electrics and only have a humble Champion 600 to use with my guitars. The amp doesn't have a tone control. In the end, I followed my original gut instinct and the major...

Mike. I get no such effect. I strike a note and hear the tone totally unchanged for 1/2 of the turn (give or take), then an immediate shift to completely open and that lasts for the remaining 1/2 of the turn. I have a pic around here somewhere but may not be able to post it until Monday... but I will.

He won't fix my Champ?!?!
A while back I bought an early 60s Fender Champ from a very well known national dealer that was described to be in very good and working condition. When I got it, I immediately noticed something was wrong in the tone pot - 100% of the adjustment fell within about 5 degrees of throw in the control. A...

Do I part out this Dual Pro?
I'm new to the forum and to electric steel and I wonder if anyone here can give me some advice. I recently bought an early Fender Dual Pro (boxcar pickups, never had legs). It doesn't have a case. It has suffered a non-professional refinish at some point. As far as I can tell, the guy got pretty car...
