It is made up of mostly bottleneck and country blues players. They're always interested in a good National.

Has anyone ever heard of, or seen, a 12 string acoustic lap steel (like a 12 string guitar, you know, string pairs)?

I think it would yield some interesting results....

No help for you though...there's a 6 string C6 book by Scotty (sold by Mel Bay) but it uses the "3rd on top" not "5th on top"

Now that's what I'm looking for! A good "around the house" lapsteel.

I'm interested in any opinions on old Oahu acoustic squareneck guitars. Sound? Things to look for? etc...

I use a "new" Princeton 65 or a Deluxe 112 (same amp with 80 watts instead of 65 watts). These are solid state amps with "dynamic" modelling. Pleanty of clean volume.

The tango St. Louis blues is the arrangement the Genial Hawaiians used.

You can determine scale length (usually) by
where the highest position markers are on
the neck.
22.5" --> 29th fret
24.5" --> 31st fret
26" --> 33rd fret

I've also seen this done when the cones were partially crushed...for the same reason, to get enough saddle angle.

8-string tricone was a special order from National. Very rare.

There's a good picture of one in the Tone Poems III CD book for track 8.

All my old squarenecks are wood clad in metal. The wood portion is not connected and starts right where it would attach to the body.

There is a "clean" channel and an "overdrive" channel. I run the clean channel and haven't had to turn it up over "3" yet to get the volume/tone I need. I'll also run the "overdrive" (which does break up easily) when playing rock and blues steel. The other thi...
