Switching to different tunings on-the-fly.
Hello,
I was wondering how some of you guys change tunings when playing a series of songs. What if you have only one guitar but need to change tunings. Do you train yourself to tune fast? Is there some kind of trick to this that makes it easier?

ALL the material for six string LS will work on 8 string, too, but the other way round might pose a problem, esp. for beginners who can't work around that by transposing 8-string stuff for the 6-string... Which books / DVDs specifically are you looking at, I have quite a collection of instructional...

I look for a teacher who teaches the style that I'm interested in and also prefers the type of instrument that I want to play. But most importantly, someone who has a good method of teaching that can help take me from novice to advanced in a reasonable amount of time (given that I practice every da...

I think one of the most important and rewarding tools for getting to know a new instrument is transcribing and playing the songs you love... I agree with this, but how do you find recordings in the tuning you are learning? That's one of the reasons why I like to use Band-in-a-Box. Because you can e...

The problem is that when reading the description of the instructional material, it never tells you how many strings the instructor uses.Brad Bechtel wrote:Depends on what you're purchasing.
I would say by far the majority of instructional material is for six string guitar, no matter what tuning is used.

Thanks for all the help. I think I like the C6 tuning so far. Given me being a novice, I'm merely going by what I hear. Question about playing style: can Hawaiian style be applied to country? I know that there are lots of different tunings and techniques, but it seems like the Hawaiian chord change...

question about instructional material
When purchasing books on, oh, let's say C6 tuning Hawaiian style, is the material based on an 8 string, 6 string, or both?
Thanks
Thanks

Oh one other thing. I've been looking around for 8 string lap and I'm finding that they're so much more expensive than the 6 strings. They're also really hard to find. Does anyone have experience with the Morrell brand? Whenever I do an Internet search, their name always comes up. I've got a feeling...

6 or 8 string hawaiian lap steel
Hello, I posted this in the Wanted forum, but wanted to ask the experts. :) I'm a noob and I'm interested in learning 6 or 8 string hawaiian lap steel (WP). Can anyone suggest some starting gear and materials? I'm looking for a decent sounding guitar that's under $500 and some recommendations for ba...

Guitar suggestion
Hello, I'm a noobie here and have an interest in learning lap steel. Does anyone have any suggestions for a low cost (but sounds pretty good) 6 or 8 string electric lap steel? My ears seem to be drawn to the Hawaiian sound of playing and not so much the overdrive of a blues guitar. And if you have a...
