E9 Fretboard Reference Booklet (Chords & Scales)
Hi Everyone, It's been a while since I posted about this, so I thought I'd post again to remind everyone about it. I created an E9 Fretboard Reference Booklet which contains common chords and scales on the E9 neck. It by no means is exhaustive, but from the lessons I've taken, music I've learned, et...

The Hilton pedal is all that and more. I wouldn't doubt it. The issue for me is price. I know as a steel player I play an expensive instrument, but I am cheap. I wanted an ibanez TS-808 pedal for my 6 stringer so I found a schematic and made my own clone. I've considered modding my Ernie Ball volum...

Ummm, if your EB Jr. isn't scratchy by now, DON'T TOUCH THAT POT! After about two years of on and off playing, nope it's not scratchy yet. It did get a little squeaky on the axle, but a little bit of sewing machine oil did the trick. The reason I might consider getting another pedal is because of t...

Re: Hilton volume pedal
...my EB VP jr... Congrats on the Hilton :) I play an EB Jr. right now too. I've heard only great things about Hilton pedals but they are just so expensive. I've considered replacing the pot in my EB Jr. with a good pot like you might find in one of the Goodrich pedals. Another thing I don't like a...

I put together a reference booklet containing chord charts and scales that I find useful. I should note that it's not a replacement for a good teacher or method book, but a supplement that you might find useful. I'm offering it as a free download here: http://www.jmlmusic.ca/leitepsg/e9_fretboard_re...

Re: Begginer instructions
Hey Jesse, I took advantage of your download offer. I hope you don't mind No problem :) ...I teach music in my hometown here, but I have to admit I am a newbie to pedal steel as well. It's really just a compilation of chords and scales I've learned since I started playing. Hope it helps! I still us...

...Many good players argue to shift the whole thing up 2 Hz or 8 cents, and that works fine for me. I don't worry about it being perfectly 8 cents up, but my roots are a bit sharp and then I tune by ear. As mentioned above I do the whole thing up 8 cents too, but I've been told that this number is ...

I tune my thirds 10 cents flat. Since the E# is the third of C#, which is the third of A (440 Hz), the E# (F lever) is tuned 20 cents flat. That's 1/5 of a fret. So I always aim high with the bar when I use that lever. No problem - it sounds in tune. I tune and play exactly the same way. If you tun...

For me , bar position is usually the culprit. I can start out with a straight bar and nice intonation, but part-way through a song I get sloppy with my bar and screw up my intonation (usually play my chords too sharp). I agree with you, that problem can usually be solved with lots of practice and p...

My E9 Fretboard Reference Booklet
Hi guys, Last year (with the help of my teachers, friends, and fellow forum members) I created an E9 fretboard reference booklet to help me learn my chords and scales up the fretboard. Having a visual "map" has really helped me, and I hope it will help others learn the E9 steel as well. I'...

Hi Frank, I play a BMI SD-10. It was a Jimmy Day setup when I received it, but my friend Bent Romnes (on the forum here) helped me turn it over to an Emmons style setup. I learned a lot about the workings of a pedal steel doing this, and I have to say BMI's flat-bar design is simple and very effecti...
