If you want to play fiddle tunes note for note, then you have to sit down and find it. If you have a copy of the Anthology of Pedal Steel, take a look at Doug Jernigans' version of Leather Britches. I think that you'll find a couple of pretty good and obvious ideas there. Listen to Bruce Boutons' ri...

Mike, In the late '80's, I had barely sat down at a steel guitar. I've never met you, don't know you, except by name, and I've only heard you play one time; that being a session tape from here locally. Sorry to offend anyone! You and any other player who has and is playing pro., certainly DESERVE MY...

I don't know, I think what's played and how it's played pretty much fits these days. Most of the stuff that I would call cheese and reflects limited chops would go back 20 years or thereabouts. I agree with Donny; in that steel guitar needs to be heard, and playing one note in any given tune, looks ...

Pick-up any Flatt and Scruggs, the two or three albums The Dillards had out and early Jim and Jesse and The Virginia Boys, if you're looking for traditional. Pick-up some of Tony Rices' recordings or Dan McCrary or Bill Keith, possibly even Bobby Thompson; if you can find any, if you're looking for ...

You can access PEAVEYS' website under links at the opening page of the forum. You can download manuals for these amplifiers there. I own 2 Session 500's. I have owned two Nashvilles, 1 Vegas and a Session 400. I never cared much for any of the above other than the 500 series. I guess it's all in wha...

I agree with Dennis about the distortion effect. I've used a whole lot of different distortion gizmos and finally settled on a Proco Rat. It definitely produces a cutting distorted sound. It also thins the tone out to the point where it's impossible to round it out. You're also pretty limited to sin...

Chuck, I can probably help you. I've got the entire fuzz assembly off of a '76 Classic that I sold awhile back. I took it all off and made a new backing plate using the old as a pattern. I kept all of this stuff, I think. I'll have to do some digging. If I remember correctly, the set-up consisted of...

Match-Bro
Anybody out there use a Match-Bro on a regular basis? Wondering how close this thing comes to a genuine dobro sound? Any comments appreciated.

I've got a Marantz. It's been used very little. It's an excellent deck. I just don't need it too often. The thing sells new for over $300.00. I'll let it go for $225.00 plus shipping. I have original box and manuals. E-mail if you're interested: walker.susan@worldnet.att.net

I'd say if you want to work at any level as a pedal steel player these days, you need to be able to produce a new country,i.e. pop sound. I think this thinking or frame of mind is basically what will keep steel guitar alive. I also think that Buddy Emmons' and Sonny Garrish were always way ahead of ...

Don,
I play thru' an original Multiverb. About the only thing I've ever used is delay. I programmed a couple of things that suited my ears, and that's where it stays. The ART is easily programmable. I run the mix slide towards the dry side of the signal, and mix internal spring reverb into the delay.

DEERING does or did make an electric banjo. Bela Fleck plays an electric. The things rely totally on electronics for tone, I never thought it was such a great sound. Sound is totally subjective though. The last time I checked, they were also fairly pricey, the neighborhood of $1500.00. I will say th...

PEAVEY 4530 efx processor
I bought one of these things real cheap the other day. I haven't gotten it yet. I was wondering if any of you have used this processor? What can I expect? Basically, is it worth holding on to?
Thanks for any info.

Bud, I've been playing that solo pretty much note for note on E9th for 10 years. There's really not much to it. Starts in A at the twelfth, moves back to E on your chromatic strings at the seventh, moves back to A at the twelfth, then to B at the fourteenth, back to the twelfth, actually playing in ...
