Session 500 pedal in/out

Post by Gil Berry »

I'm just wondering - how many session 500 users run their volume pedal through the volume pedal in/out jacks on the amp and how many put the pedal directly in series between the guitar and the amp input? I've noticed a great difference in the effect the pedal has on volume ...seems to have a much steeper "slope" (faster gain) when run in series with the input - so much so, in fact, I have trouble not "bouncing" my volume that way, but there is a lot more head room there if you can control the steep volume change. Which, do you think, is best? (btw, I use a Goodrich pedal w/ a 10K pot)

Gil, from my old home town where I grew up and graduated from Westminster High. Albiet that Mike Brown will tell you that is the way to do it, I do believe that the vast majority goes from guitar to effects (if any) to pedal to amp. At least that is the way I was taught, but I forget the reasons cuz it was long ago. Lets see what Mike has to say. Also you could do a search about this, you will find a ton of stuff I'll bet.

I seem to recall that the three cord hookup is not recommended with the 10K pedals. It is designed for the 500K pedals, which may explain the faster gain that you're experiencing.

Gil I prefer using threewire hookup on my session 500.To me it seems that all the freq's are more equal through out the slope.Conseridering your pedal is 10 k ,it probably hits fast and hard as you mention. When use an effect I will put it between the third wire comeing back from the pedal and the pedal in on the amp. This will allow a reverb for instance to continue ringing out even after string is muted or volume pedal is in off position....as mention in previous reply maybe Mike will enlighten us on this subject

Gil,

I also use the 3-cable hookup on my Session 500 and Nashville 400. The amp just plain sounds "bigger" that way.

For what it's worth,I use the pedal loop for the volume pedal only. I come out of the guitar to a RAT, go to a processor, from the processor directly to amp input. This is the cleanest sound I've been able to come up with.
