There is a pic I use with my nails called the ALASKA Pik. It clips under your existing nail. Works nicely for me. Here is a link. You have to trim these with nail clippers and then file them to your specs. http://www.alaskapik.com/ They carry these over at Maple Street Guitars in Buckhead. I see yo...

I forgot to mention. After the "surgery" my playing improved enormously. Every aspect from ease of playing, to tone, to attack accuracy, to volume, you name it, improved and unless you really looked you wouldn't notice the "implants", because they weren't that much bigger, ...

I play the six string with fingers only. I have never played with picks as I mostly play fingerstyle. I started years ago in a band playing bass with fingers and can't get used to picks. I tried growing fingernails but the only one that was strong is my thumb. So I heard on another forum about some ...

I have had good luck with Formula 409. It cleans up oily parts nicely, and I also use it to clean the black buffing residue from aluminum parts. It doesn't seem to cause corrosion, or dis-coloration, at least it hasn't yet. I use the same stuff to scrub amp tolex. The 409, along with an old toothbr...

Are you diabetic? No but a friend's wife is and she gave me a handfull of the very small ones she has. They have incredibly small needles on them which are excellent for getting into small places. I know some of the nurses in the small town hospital where I used to live and they gave me some old gl...

Suggestions for cleaning the metal parts

I used to use Ronson lighter fluid for the strings. What is preferred nowadays for all the gear underneath? What about for a lube job? I use a small hypodermic needle. Works great but doesn't look great when the neighbours come over. Have to hide it. :whoa: No really it's to lube my guitar. s...

A friend of mine works for an airline in the maintenence department. He has gotten trained on Carbon Fibre (CF) repairs because new aircraft are gradually being built with it due to it's lightness and stiffness etc. I had heard about the health problems associated with it as another friend told me a...

Ballpark value of my steel?

Hi, I'd like to know what my steel is worth. The general info is in my signature and here are some pics. The mark on the left leg is a sticker which has been removed. As you see from the underneath view there are 4 knee levers. Since I took the picture I lowered the others as they were fastened up i...

Thanks John and Jon, Jon, yours is a twin for sure. Your photos are very well done. Not sure if it's an illusion but yours look a lot lighter. Maybe yours faded from seeing the light of day more often    An old teacher of mine said a book that isn't dog-eared (from use) is not a...

Should I just leave the scratches on the neck alone?

My Shobud has some scratches near the nut. The black fretboard and maple underneath make the scratches very visible. There are no marks anywhere else. I'm mildly tempted to touch them up. Seems to be the general opinion on this site that this is a bad idea. The finish seems to be very thin. What is ...
