I have three of those oahu's at the moment (want one?) the third I am in the process of resurrecting, repaired a crack, had to fabricate a brace and had to reglue all the braces on the back. Way more trouble than it was worth, but i love these little guys and will always have a non-reso squareneck i...

Been away awhile, but here are some new builds...

Hey guys, I haven't been here in a while but I just finished a couple lap guitars I'm proud of and I thought I'd share. These are homemade instruments that look homemade! I've built a couple of these guitars I call Ghettoborns. They are built like danelectros with masonite top and back over a hollow...

The bridge floats, so if the intonation gets wonky, you just tap it. Longer scale length so lot's of room to compensate. I haven't really had a problem with mine, and your right, old lowe is a cool dude.

I've got one, it's a lot of fun especially at campfires and the like. You can't beat the built-in beer holder. very cool lo-fi sound with a reverb-e nature but not a lot of sustain. Recording found on my myspace page:

I have two Gary Swallows bars, a custom tigerwood with a rounded nose and a shubb version. By far the most comfortable bars I own, but I do prefer the sound of both nickel plate and chrome plate. Seems brighter to my ears, now if I could only get gary to make me a chrome plated version.

if it's ivory ends, be prepared to be really careful. Heat gently with a torch, be careful to keep the torch far enough away where it won't discolor the chrome. Go slow. Use a vise and straighten slowly. Harrison

Re: Ghettoborne rocks!

That ghettoborne is so cool! It looks like a Nate Daniels design! Very cool, pulling together the Weissenborne influence, the Danelectro thing, and a sweet paint job! Kurt Kurt, as a longtime fan of yours, that means a lot to me. I will have a turbo one of these days. I used to frequent an open mic...

I don't know any theory behind it, but I make these: http://i5.photobucket.com/albums/y160/hcw3/100_1535.jpg I call it the ghettoborn. It's uneven, rough, made from laminated pine and masonite, and it sounds good. You can hear sound samples of a lowebro and the ghettoborn on my myspace page: http://...

Here is a guy who makes square dobros. http://www.myspace.com/oldlowe and they seem to be pretty cool. Don't forget the pineapple ukeleles that have been around for about a century. new guy introduction

I've lurked here from time to time over the years but just got around to registering. I've been playing lapstyle for about 10 years as the mood strikes me. I'm still not very good, but I have fun trying. I first got into lap guitar when I was working at a friend's (Bernie Larsen- Mellisa Etheridge, ...
