A notch filter will quickly and easily eliminate the hum from the ShoBud single-wound pickup. Ask at the studio. If they don't have one, you are at the wrong studio.

I started with 5-string banjo in 1959. Heavily influenced by the Kingston Trio. I was then turned on to Earl Scruggs and was lost in the vibe. I started playing PSG in 1972. But years of banjo affected my right hand (Focal Dystonia - look it up). I now play with just a thumb pick on steel but get ar...

I remember seeing Mark O'Conner at the Weiser Fiddle Festival in the late 70's. I never saw him without a fiddle in his hand, playing 16 hours a day. He had no other life. Sometimes I wonder what a balanced life would have done to him. Same for Buddy. I saw him in Reno NV in the late 70's (MGM Grand...

She rocks the house. Before her throat issues, Rolling Stones mag called her "a female Jimi Hendrix". This EP displayed her country roots. She is a delightful person.

Thanks

The comma at the end of the earlier URL caused some weirdness.

Yes, let me know if you're in the area. Big bash in Boise Apr 24-26: Tarwater, Pinto Bennett and the Famous Motel Cowboys, Kip Attaway, Muzzie Braun, the list goes on. Several Nashville pickers will be there.

Hello, Bob. Yes, I am playing steel on Tarwater's "From The Heart" album, and most of Pinto Bennett's albums. I still play, mostly studio work, although some bar gigs. I was in the original Tarwater Band in the 70's. We had a wonderful reunion concert this past summer in Boise/Mt Home, Ida...

Blues in the Night, by the great Harold Arlen. Although we think of Johnny Mercer for this one, Harold penned the melody. Play it slow and sultry.

Also, Summertime is a natural in Am on the C6th neck. Play it slow, then switch to E9 to kick it up-tempo.

Correction

So, I now have violated one of my own pet peeves, too: the misuse of the words "principle" and "principal". Mr Herseth was principal trumpet, not principle trumpet.

This topic has been hotly debated since the time of Ptolemy, and continues today. Professional symphony orchestra players have been known to get in fist-fights over this. The twelve tone equal temperament took hold for a variety of reasons. It conveniently fit the existing design of early piano keyb...
