They did a really good job on the amps and its about time someone else other than me made that pickup. i dont know for sure what was said but I wanted to nip that kind of comment in the bud wether it was relayed accurately or not - I dont know- enough said about that! Thanks to my pals on the steel ...

What??? It would be really interesting to see. Not knowing if that was actually said or who said it there are a few ways to make an more authentic pickup than I do- one make the bobbins cheaper so the coil will eventually short out with the pole pieces. Two use a slot head pole so it breaks off if y...

The "arched metal cover" on a rickenbacker is the magnet. There are two horseshoe magnets, one on the right and one on the left, the coil is located inside the horseshoes.

I am not taking any repairs for a while but I would certainly make a standard item like an ultra tone pickup. A P-90 wont fit- wrong pole spacing, wrong mounting holes. They are similar to P-90s in ways- i have taken specs from hundreds of old steel guitar pickups and can say these early racetrack s...

thanks everyone- we recorded that when- over a year ago??? There are a couple more vids with Orville playing two or three more pickups coming out and then Orville plays all of the pickups clean through a princeton reverb with a 12 inch speaker which is pretty close to a Deluxe Reverb. Thanks Orville

They are humbucking and wired in series, it is unusual for a vintage guitar to have a set of pickups that are humcancelling combined but certainly not unheard of

There is alot of confusion about what happened. there is no patent on horseshoe pickups- patents are only good for 10 years and this was patented in the 1930's. There could be some legal confusion- suppose you got a trademark on the looks of the horseshoe but anyone with legal experience will tell y...

Enforcing trademarks in other coutries is anywhere from extremely expensive at best to impossible if they dont have similar trademark laws. I have trademarks in japan- I had to file with the japanese government etc- big expensive hassle. Now Rickenbacker did manage to trademark the look of the horse...

Lots of newer steels are using two pickups. all of roberts guitars have dual single coil sets I made for him- the blue, purple and yellow fessedens have a combination of the chicago steel near the bridge and a single coil sort of like a stringmaster in the neck. He uses a simple miniture DPDT 3 way ...

Pickups will be ready as soon as the plates come back from the plater- couple more weeks probably, I have bobbins wound and ready to go. An 8 string version- I had'nt thought about it- been to busy just pushing the 6 through. i would need to do some simple testing to see if it will work for an 8 but...

Sorry I didnt see this ,I can make those without covers- the bottom plate would have tabs in the same location where they would be on the cover so it could be a direct fit. Those are a pretty noisy pickup- all Jazzmaster style pickups are that way but they do sound nice. You would have to call me- t...

Long time no see- i havent posted here for years- hi Rick A! These will be ready in about 4 or 5 weeks. "I can see how a magnet would break down but how could a coil of wire break down?" there are alot of different reasons that could happen. One is the wire in the coil is often as fine or finer than hair and it is insulated with a coating that is only microns thick. Look at just about any gu...

I had Bill Frizzel come by and play some tele bu...
