When I was a kid in the Rio Grande Valley, I remember seeing Norman Newton playing at different dances and was excellent on both steel and fiddle. He kept his fiddle next to his steel and laid the bow in between the necks of his D-10. Played both the steel and fiddle breaks. Not sure where he is now...

And by the way to keep on the thread. I use cobra coil and am quite happy with them. Bobbe Seymour graciously gave me a couple of sets last time in Nashville and they work well for me.

Ward, you wouldn't happen to be talking about Norman Newton would you? I am from the valley and remember him and Kenneth tearing it up at the local establishments. A great steel and fiddle player too.

I forgot to mention in the original post that this guitar is about 1-1/2" over normal height. This was done at the Carter factory by John Fabian when I picked it up. I have pics now so email me of interested.

Thanks

Jim, yea I have more than I need for sure. The Carter is a great guitar but I find myself more and more behind my old Pro-I. Nothing imitates a Sho-Bud to me.

Steve, are you gigging around Bremond anywhere?

Thanks

I had the privilege to sit next to Doug while he and Brent Mason recorded most of this album. Simply amazing the level that these two play at and to watch it happen was something that I will never forget. What is really a credit to Dougs ability is most of the tunes on this CD were cut on a single t...

I have always loved the steel coming through on all those good ole country classics. I was inspired enough just listening to it to try to learn to play it. The real inspiration came when I spent a week recently with Doug Jernigan. I can only dream to play at the level he does. What an absolute inspi...

Another Carter Starter Question

I looked for the answer before I posted here and didn't find it but I was wondering if the CS is light enough to be carried as "carry on" luggage on an airplane. I travel overseas quite a bit and don't want to risk checking my good D-10 just to have something to practice on while I'm gone....

On My Way!

After hacking around for the last year and a half on a Sho-Bud Pro I, I am anxiously waiting the arrival of a new Carter D10 8x5! To add icing to the cake, this month,I will have a week with Doug Jernigan in Nashville to help learn this instrument I have become so addicted to. Thanks to Bobbe Seymou...

Thanks for the warm welcome guys.

Lee, and from McAllen no less. Don't live there anymore though as I left the valley when I was 18.

What happened with the steel players down there? Norman Newton? Kenton Kolberg? Are they still playing?
