I remember mine sounding awesome! And very heavy! I re-wired the bias balance circuit to be a normal grid bias adjustment (it was really cold and sounded much better when the tubes were running at about 28mA) if the hum balance is really noisy, its probably just a dirty pot. I would hit it with some...

if it were me I would replace that entire plywood cabinet with the dado baffle and frame with a brand new one made from solid Pine. that would be the single largest tone upgrade you can make to that thing, plus it would cut about 5-6 pounds in weight you can get that exact tolex/grill cloth combinat...

they definitely made it their own - theres a button on the side which turns it into a Univibe! I never heard the original Ross phaser but I will have to keep an eye out for one if its anything like the JHS re-creation everybody borrowed from MXR. I do not think thats a secret - but every pedal compa...

Ross Phaser

JHS pedals re-launched the Ross pedal line a few weeks ago. The Ross Phaser pedal is probably the best phaser I have ever used with my pedal steel setup. Thought I would share that information. Theres also a univibe mode (button on the side) that is pretty fun - but for a slow phaser that seems to b...

The Amp Stereo is here!

Hey folks - its been a while since I had something new to offer the steel guitar community but this is a big one. What I have is a 2 channel version of The Amp with the highest possible headroom. You can run stereo, power 2 cabs up to 200W per side (at 4ohms) run 2 mismatched cabs (because each side...

check the EQ switch on the far right of the front panel - does it crackle when you move it back and forth?

I was having trouble with the Webb I recently acquired and cleaning that switch by spraying in some MCL fixed it.

voltage is headroom - let it soar! the one thing I would check is your heater voltage - it should be 6.3vac and if that drifted high it can shorten tube life and also does make things sound less good than they would at 6.3 or lower. Adding a 1-3ohm 5W resistor after the pilot light will solve that p...

Hey Steven - it depends on which model amplifier you have, but in general I find a good starting point to be "all knobs at noon" and from there you can make minor adjustments. my amplifiers are designed to sound great with steel guitar right out of the box - there are not many controls and...

Yeah they seem to be the same as MOD, maybe they spec them a bit differently or adjust the springs manually and slap their new sticker on. I will say that in general, I really like the MOD tanks. I have used thousands of them over the years and only had a few go bad, and when they do go bad they are...

I tend to think the 100 has the edge for pedal steel. I run all of the preamp controls (vol treb bass) at noon and leave the boost on set to about 11 o'clock and just a touch of reverb and never run out of headroom or power even at my loudest gigs I think the 50 has a bit of a sweeter sound overall....

FYI the "tweed" material made today is not similar to what Fender used in the 50s at all. Its mostly plastic now. You won't see it fray as it ages like you did those old Fenders.

But because its mostly plastic, the tolex glue and amber poly works well on it

Yes I still do the dual channel amps on request. After years and years of building amps for players that do double duty I have some thoughts but the main take away is that I think its better to find a single channel amp that sounds great for both and then roll with it. if the headphone output sees something it doesn't like, it'll draw too much current and put the amp into protection. Use the "pedal out" when using The Amp as a pedal - the headphone amp is not meant to drive a high impedance line input

if you look closely at that connector it's labeled on the solder side:

L - line

N - neutral (thats the one near your thumb on the photo with the solder side showing)

but if you are confused maybe don't do this task because you can definitely blow some stuff up if they are backwards!
