Old lady learned some new tricks

Here's a demo of my 8x5 Emmons PP which I've given an alternative use of the LKV pedal. Also the C pedal has a non-standard use as well. It's a personal thing to do this, so please be kind in your comments :) https://youtu.be/SAjg9I56hu8

Thanks to everyone for their insights on the matter. I just love doing it - phrasing is more musical right of the shelf. Plus it's a great way to monitor yourself: are the notes coming out of the steel as you intended them.

Singing what you play

I wonder if other forumites do this? I often sing along to what I play. For practice. Here's an example, a blues in F. https://youtu.be/fzcFfMp675A
Just wish I could sing chords too

Jerry Douglas intro on All the Lilacs in Ohio

I recorded this just to be my own teacher, videos help me to know what I'm doing wrong. Anyway, this is how I think JD plays the intro of the John Hiatt song All the Lilacs in Ohio (from the Leftover Feelings album) Since I didn't see that one on the Tube yet, I thought I'd post it here in case anyo...

I saw it, thanks. That's a really nice tune to play on a steel guitar.

Here's some photos of the removal of one PU, and installation of a new one (actually a Fender Jazz Bass pu). The oddest thing about the original pu is that the magnets just sit loosely in there. After removal of the cover I just could take them out one by one. Hi-res versions available if somebody n...

Guyatone (Fender Deluxe 8 copy) pickup question

I recently picked up this (? 60ies) Guyatone 8-string console. The thing seems to be well built, stays in tune, etc etc but the pickups don't sound good. I have other 8st pups laying around, so I'd wanna try some in there. But... I can't figure out how they're attached to the body. Could it be they'...

Hi Jan, I counted 10 strings on his E9th in the video... Yes, this is what I think he was playing and what I've put on that Maverick. Makes sense, evolving from lap/console steel to have the root as the lowest string. Then again, I might be mistaken. https://bb.steelguitarforum.com/userpix2020-03/5...

Thanks Tucker! I'm still in progress on what I'm gonna do with the C-pedal, for now it's a kinda FranklinP, lowering G# to F# (didn't use it in this video)

LKV alternative use

I once read on this Forum that putting a E to F# raise on the LKV (instead of the usual B to Bb lower) can be useful. So I tried it, and I think it's gonna stay. Here's a demo: It wasn't God who made Honky Tonk angels

Buddy Emmons solo - Drivin' nails in my coffin

A lot of people make fun of the Sho~Bud Maverick (the 3&1, brown vinyl covered type). But if you look at them as a 10-string lap steel (console if you will) with a few abilities to change the pitch of a certain string, they fit the bill like no other. They sound good, stay in tune and are easy t...

pre-knee lever copedent

I've been reading a lot lately, on the development of the pedal steel guitar. About a certain moment in time, I'm curious for the insights of any Forum Member that may be relevant. I wanna focus on this video , Ernest Tubb in 1961 with the BigE (solo comes in at 1'58"). From what I've read, kne...

SS 5x5

I've been missing my SS D10 ever since I sold it (reason: I got me an Emmons PP D10). Very interested in this guitar. Will you ship it to Europe? -edit- Do you still have the original SS pickup? Or was the GeorgeL installed from the factory?
