Yes I have the Fishman Nashville pickup on my National Scheerhorn L Body like Mark says and it doesn't have a palm rest. I don't rest my hand on the bridge unless I'm doing a muting technique but even then the pressure is minute compared to the 200 some pounds of pressure in G tuning. Nothing to wor...

I think it works fine for bluegrass but to each his own.

Yes. Was it the middle G string? The winding is a fine bronze wire and it’s always the first to go. When I was first starting out with the dobro my instrument wasn’t very loud and I remember wrecking a brand new string after one song in a loud jam trying to hear myself. Many players carry spare G st...

I have a National Scheerhorn L Body with the DoubleShot and locking tuners. Absolutely get them! I say that not so much for the tuning stability but because they are the nicest tuners I’ve ever used. Silky smooth, easy action and fast easy string changes without any extra wraps to wind on or unwind....

It Came Upon a Midnight Clear

After a few years away my son and I made another Christmas video which I finished yesterday. The description: Greg and Danny Booth team up for another Christmas classic. Stick around to the end and see the Scheerhorn equipped with the DoubleShot tuning changer put to novel use...E-B-D-G-B-D to Eb-Bb...

That is the tuning that Greg Booth uses to play Panhandle Rag on (he may have the lowest string at E - but D works as I think the only thing played on that string is the bass slide up - you can watch Troy Brenninger's interview with Greg on Youtube to learn more). It's a good tuning to get some swi...

One trick that Greg Booth gave in an interview with Troy Brenningmeyer - If you know pretty much what you will play, you can record the video first, aiming not for perfection, but just no huge glaring errors. No worries about sound quality. Then record the audio seperately, using the same backing t...

Nobody has mentioned these yet but by all accounts the Recording King dobros sound great, are well made and are the best value now. The Maxwell is a trad sound well design for $399 and the Phil Leadbetter model is a modern open body w sound post design for $699. Here is Phil playing it with Steve Gu...

Amazing play count on Apache, congratulations Doug. And in such a short time! All that aside, it’s a fantastic sounding arrangement. I listen to it often. BTW, back when I played clubs full time we always hosted a costume contest on Halloween. My wife would bring home full scrubs, surgical gloves,...

Thanks Mike. The reason I mention it is that, although the drop E dobro tuning (EBDGBD) is my default tuning I return string 6 to G for Panhandle Rag and use that string. If you put in a 2 chord like some do then the low E would be pretty handy. Steel Guitar Rag works pretty cool for that reason wit...
