Ricky, I got the Maverick back today and it is AMAZING!! Thanks SOOOOO much for your help in "restoring" this wonderful guitar!! With Jim's comments above, I now understand why it had a "broken finger". I managed to score a Carter Starter in the last few days and I'm looking forw...

Vintage Sho-Bud Maverick Repair

Ricky, The Maverick is on its way. I included the little plastic clips which are new. The old ones are fine, but Michael at PSG Parts suggested that I replace them. I have no idea how much your charge for something like this, so just let me know what to send. I'll also see that the forum gets a dona...

Thanks, Ricky. I've ordered (today, at Mike's suggestion) a set of the plastic rod clips. There's not a lot more under there to go wrong...go wrong...go wrong! Mike at PSGPARTS.COM has been a big help in this project as well. I know the Maverick isn't much of a steel, but it looked like a good place...

Vintage Sho-Bud Maverick Repair

Also, I'd sure be happy if someone could let me know which knee/pedal raises/lowers which strings and from what note to what note. As you can tell, the PSG is not my primary instrument, but I LOVE them! Thanks in advance...

Vintage Sho-Bud Maverick Repair

I recently "refreshed" an old Sho-Bud Maverick. I've refinished it (came out pretty nice, I think) and am now ready to reinstall the rods. I think I'm going to need some help with this. I'd like to know who I might ship this guitar to in order to have it set up properly.

FS/T - Dobro Hound Dog - $275 - Pending local sale

I'm thinning out the herd in order to pay for my Appalachain that's on the way. I have a Dobro Hound Dog for sale - $275 plus $20 shipping. It's the model with the "F" holes and from what I'm seeing out there, they're getting hard to find. Like all the Hound Dogs I've ever owned, this has ...

FS/T - Gretsch Boxcar Dobro - Pending Local Sale

A beautiful example of a great square neck resophonic guitar. New, these sell for around $360, more or less WITHOUT the case - check with your local Guitar Center. This one is totally flawless and comes WITH a padded hard shell case. It's time to pay for my Appalachain, so I'm letting this one go fo...

Thanks to everyone for their input, the mystery is solved. It's a c.1987 solid mahogony Regal Import. The sound is so good on this, I'll just leave it alone, not going to upgrade the cone for now. Thanks again for helping me to put this to bed!!

thanks, Brad ... no matter how good this one sounds, it's going to hard to beat my Beard or Appalachain! It's amazing to me that this guitar is actually SOLID wood, which is likely why it sounds so good. I thought imports were almost always laminate ... that's what I get for thinking ... Mark Makin ...

Thanks very much, Mark. I was really hesitant to take the thing apart, but I'm glad I did. A new set of strings and she's back in business. It's really one of the best sounding guitars I've ever played ... and I have a Beard! Ok, off to the Bay area to contact Saga. Thanks again!

Thanks, Mike. I appreciate the input. If this IS an early import, it's one of the BEST I've ever heard. I dismantled the guitar to have a look inside and I've included the pics I took. A couple of things stand out as a bit "unusual" here. First, it appears to be a solid wood guitar - looks...

I Need Help Identifying This Regal "Dobro"

Hi, I found this hanging on the wall in a music shop in Hot Springs, AR. I paid it little mind - it was old and a little beat up ... but decided to at least strum it... WOW!!! What a tone ... what volume! Needless to say, I bought it immediately for a little over $100. That was the longest 5 hour dr...

Totally Pristine RD-40 Square Neck Regal. There appeared to be a smudge just below the neck, but that cleaned up perfectly as you can see in the 3rd picture. No scratches or dings anywhere. This guitar is one of the best Regals I've ever played. It's construction is totally different from any import...

A starter is a basic "student" model. Usually has 3 pedals and 1 (maybe 2) knee levers. They are USUALLY not upgradeable - that is you usually cannot add additional pedals or knees. But they're more than sufficient for beginning steel playing. Just know that IF you get good and want a bett...

FS/T - Dobro Hound Dog "Hot Rod" - Pending Sale

I just finished the upgrade on a Dobro Hound Dog I recently purchased. It now has a Tim Scheerhorn Cone assembly and Paul Beard Ebony capped Maple saddles. It came with a bone nut from the factory so I left it alone. You can follow the upgrade process and see what I did by visiting my website, http:...
