It is also possible that one or more of its electrolytic capacitors has become leaky. I have an old guitar tuner that began consuming batteries while sitting unused in its case. I measured the current draw in its 'off' state, and it did have some small current draw. I replaced its four electrolytic ...

Long shot....

This is a long shot, but, if your tuning gears have a screw that holds each tuning button, it's possible that they might need just a little tightening. Tightening the button screw will increase the effort required to tune the string, at the same time it will prevent the string from pulling to an out...

Or, massaging Micheal Brebes hole and peg repair, drill two smaller holes, one on each side of the screw.

Absolutely clamp the break together before drilling to ensure the alignment.

Good luck with your repair.

Home made lap steel

Well, here's my home built lap steel. I just finished it this afternoon. I have been a hobbyist guitar player for decades, and have thought about getting a lap steel for a few years. I don't know how to play it, but I did buy the Mel Bay Presents Basic C6th Nonpedal Lap Steel Method, and Doug Beaumi...

I had a small problem with a tuning gear on my GFI so I e-mailed GFI to find out how to proceed. The problem was quickly resolved.

My recommendation: directly email GFI. Their email address is gfipedalguitars@bigfoot.com. They have fantastic customer support.

GFI - Great service

I recently had a tuning gear strip its tread so it wasn't holding the gear head. I e-mailed GFI about this problem, indicating that I would like to buy a replacement. I quickly got a response from an individual at GFI named Bob. He told me that he's send a new replacement Grover gear at no charge! I...

Hello John:

I recently bought a used GFI and it had two loose tuning gears. They are Grovers, and they appear to be an aftermarket installation. I bought ten metric (10mm) flat washers to add a little thickness to where they grip the gearhead. It worked beautifully.
