I just heard about Bobby's passing. What a shock. I stopped playing steel many years ago and have not visited the forum in quite a while. I really liked Bobby and I'm sure everyone who knew him felt the same way. I met Bobby long before the forum started. He was always a very good guy and (of course...

A hungry man is a dangerous man and if his kids are hungry he's a very dangerous man. How many more months, weeks or even days can people all over the world go without an income. I think most Americans would be surprised to know how many people world wide live hand to mouth and simply can't endure t...

Andy, I plan on making a trip to Saigon later this year. November or December. I'll let you know when I arrive there. Also, I'll be staying in Pattaya this coming winter so let's hookup there again. Right now I'm in Oakland, CA. I don't play steel anymore but I do play guitar everyday for hours. You...

For those who might not be familiar with Allan Holdsworth and his music, he was to fusion guitar what Buddy Emmons was to PSG. The king! And if you've never listened to fusion guitar here is a YouTube link to an interesting display of fusion guitar playing by several different, young players. Holdsw...

I saw him play chromatic harmonica about 30 years ago in SF and he also played jazz guitar and whistled every note he played as he played them. He was really one of a kind. RIP Toots.

Chris Sattler, Yes, the video of Emmons playing that blues tune is where I took the head from. I don't know the name of that tune but its easy to play and fits any basic 12 bar blues pattern. I love that video . Especially the smile on Jerry Douglas's (the dobro player) face when Emmons starts playi...

Chris Sattler, Changing my 8 string steel to a 10 stringer was not that difficult because I had all the parts I needed and because of the keyless tuning system I use. Also, my steel already had a 10 string pickup on it which helped make it easier for me. Here are some pics and diagrams to explain wh...

Thanks Andy. This is very helpful. Now I need to know who sells a wide range of strings because I want some that my local stores don't carry. More importantly, I know of one source for gauged roller nuts but I am curious to know if there are other makers of gauged roller nuts that you might know of?...

Yamaha THR5 10 watt desktop amp

Hello folks,
Have any of you tried this small amp? It's the Yamaha THR5, 10 watt, "desktop" amp. It sells for $200. I have heard it played and reviewed by a guitarist on YouTube but what about lap steel? Thanks, Don
