Here’s my GS10 I got in a trade deal a little over a month ago. The original owner put a neck on it and replaced the pickup on it with a humbucker 710, and cut a new pick guard for it. Underneath the pick guard it was routed to accommodate the taller pickup, which is great since I was able to locate...

Andy, I noticed you are on Facebook. You can join a Fender Pedal steel group and go to the “files” section that has a link to the owner’s manual. You might get more input and feedback from the members since they love their Fenders. https://m.facebook.com/groups/1648769605337317/?ref=share&mibext...

It's my understanding that the ultralinear amps started in about 77 or 78; not in 68. Oops, yeah I meant 78. Edited my post! It is more than likely due for maintenance, get it checked out by your tech, and put it in a head cab, I'll bet you'll like it! It's already in a head cabinet. I have a guy t...

Anyone using a Twin 135 watt ultra linear?

I picked up a head only in a trade. I’ve heard a few guys using them years ago (including Tim Marcus, builder of Milkman amps), and thought they sounded amazing. Mine needs a little work. It basically works but by just barely touching the “hum balance “ control on the back, the hum got louder and wo...

I was communicating with the seller but never bought it, so no I don't have the knee levers. I wasn't able to find much info on that obscure brand. I think he might have sent me more photos.....

Thanks guys. All good advice! I like punch and midrange but not mudrange! LOL! When I heard 12K, I was surprised, although it might be accurate and what others prefer, I thought I might want a few more windings. I also like Mike Polansky's idea of modding the guitar to have a height adjustment for t...

Emmons push/pull pickups

I have a GS10 student model but it has a replacement humbucker BL 710. I can dial in a real good tone with it, but I want the classic push pull sound. I've heard 12k is what the GS10 pickup was wound too, and the wraparounds. I have a non working Emmons pickup that needs a rewind...just wondering wh...

Using a nylon nut type rod….for the C pedal use a standard 1/8” stop collar or a ShoBud barrel reversed. The A pedal uses a standard ShoBud brass barrel but with a knurled Tele knob installed at the end of rod. Hold the Tele knob while engaging C pedal then tune with nylon nut. Engage A pedal and t...

Johnny, when Lloyd converted to nylon tuners did he also change to the double raise/single lower scissor finger?

The barrel system seems pretty straightforward to me. Same basic concept as the rack and barrel.

Shobud barrels behind pullers

Hello! I recently wound up with nice 1974 Pro 1 with the 1 up/1 down changer. It was originally a barrel behind two hole puller, but was modified with nylon endplate tuners, so some stops are tuned under the guitar, which doesn’t thrill me, but the guitar not only sounds amazing but it holds tune ve...

Just saw Marty and his Shobud in Cloverdale, CA last Friday on a run with Shineyribs. He and some of the band came by our gig across the street from their hotel and hung out for a bit. Can't say I know him well but we've crossed paths a handful of times when our band opened for Robert Earl Keen. I h...

The original recording was done on a Fender 1000 d-8 pedal steel but he didn't use the pedals. I think most live performances were done on a 6 string lap steel, E minor tuning.
