Fiddle, steel, piano wanted for UK based western swing band

Hi all, Based in North London and Hertfordshire, we're currently a 3-piece looking to expand. Our set is a mix of Bob/Billy Jack Wills, Spade Cooley, Merle Travis, Tennessee Ernie and a bit of country/rockabilly. We're looking for fiddle, steel and piano players. That's three people :) If you double...

We were on the same bill as Narvel a few weeks ago in Sweden. We also sang backup vocals on some stuff that I think he did originally with the Jordanaires?

What a lovely chap! No airs or graces, just a genuine, nice guy. Had breakfast with him the following day and he was just one of the boys.

Bo, what I think you're saying is that we should spend less time rehearsing and more time in the "community" as it's more worthwhile. I'd respectfully disagree. In a recession, when things are darkest, people need entertainment. You'll notice the movie theaters are still busy, TV shows are...

Assuming you eliminate all the medical reasons (high blood pressure etc.), I found that cutting out caffeine from coffee, Coke and other soda, and eating healthily helps. Mine is worse after I ride my motorbike or play a gig, but decent earpugs help.

Refinish before sale?

Hi all,

I'm thinking of selling my '50s Fender Deluxe 8. It's been refinished in the past in some kind of dark brown paint, but the chrome is great and it sounds fabulous.

I can get it refinished in the correct period "blond", but is it worth it or should I sell as-is?

Does anyone use the A6th tuning recommended in the fender manual? Kristen Hardly no one. Fender was always very slow to adopt changes, and it showed in their literature (when it came to tunings). They were solidly stuck in the '50s when everyone else (except Harlin) had "graduated" to the...

Jim wrote they've timed their every move to every note and if you don't play that note, they trip and fall down! I've found that throwing a few bars of 5/4 occasionally is very effective in dealing with the line dancing problem. We wrote a swing number with a 7 beat tacet in the middle to deal with...

Ken B I am just wondering you live in england how do you buy a steel? Well - England is a very small country compared to the USA, and you can just about drive from top to bottom easily in a day. Therefore buying a used guitar is not a lottery over here as you should be able to try it first before b...

I'll add my £0.02... Basil not only knows a huge amount about the steel guitar, but has the ability to impart this to others. He improved my right hand picking technique dramatically in about 15 minutes, and helped me get my copedant set the way I needed it for the kind of music I want to play. He a...
