Haddock "Buford" Guitar and Steel combo
I am selling my Buford, I built this a few years ago. It is at Guitar House of Tulsa on display, but I told the owner I would post an ad on here as well. We are asking $3500, please make an offer if you really want it. I am a luthier and a Junior Brown freak so this was my version. The case is not f...

RAYLINE Single on Double frame 3x4 $1200 on Ebay as of 10th
I've never sold a steel so the shipping thing I'm not sure about. I got this from Bill Ray around '02 and recently had the knee levers changed to match the Lloyd Green tuning that is posted on the forum. I need some money and this will have to go. I'm not buying another steel for a long time, I'm go...

Jeff Kearns now with Steve Miller Band
We recently met a guy named Jeff Kearns who drives for Steve Miller, apparently he is an old steel and banjo player and never mentioned it to his boss. Now that Steve knows his talents he wants to learn banjo and steel himself and have Jeff play with the band sometimes. This has turned into a great ...

lap steel solo on old rockabilly record
I just heard this solo and it's pretty wild and frantic the way I like it, may not appeal to everyone, skip to just before the 2:00 minute mark... the song is not so good.

Sorry to hear he's gone, I learned a lot from Bill. My best wishes to his family. Bill was a great mentor to me and I'll never forget him. I will never part with my Rayline.

just thought of something else
if you don't have a circuit tester or just to make it a part of your setup routine when on stage, touch the microphone to the strings of a grounded-bridge guitar and see if you get an arc, don't touch the strings or metal parts when you do this...

...(1) A small device about the size of an extension cord's male plug, available for under $10 at Radio Shack, that plugs into a wall socket and displays one of 3 patterns on 3 lights on the device, which will tell you if the wall socket is wired correctly... I just bought one of these at Home Depo...

safety
I didn't get into further, but there is a trick described in Dan Erlewine's book on guitar repair involving a resistor and capacitor soldered in parallel in between the bridge and ground. It is a little safety device that burns out if too much current goes through, saving your life or saving you fro...

pickups?
I have guitars with humbuckers that are shielded with foil in the cavities and no ground to the bridge and they are very quiet (shielding is grounded). Single coil pickup guitars on the other hand may require a grounded bridge if played under certain stage lights no matter how well they are shielded...

Anyone know "Almost to Tulsa"?
Every time I see Junior Brown play live he does this Buddy Charleton/Ernest Tubb instrumental called "Almost to Tulsa". He re-tunes a couple strings from his C13 for it and pulls it off just like the recording. Does anyone know the tuning for it?

lac tips
If it is definitely lacquer, these guys are right, you need to determine whether the finish is cloudy due to a bad finish job or because of a poor buff job, or just dirt on the finish. Use a mild spray guitar polish like Martin or Dunlop. If you put naptha on it, you'll clean it for sure, but you mi...

bridge washed out
I love all of Junior's stuff, that last album and many of his tunes are on his pedal steel. He's just as good on pedal, but he doesn't play a lot of those songs live I think because he only takes his guit-steel on the road. On that song I believe it's E9th, but he plays it like a lap steel with a bu...

lap steel bridge on ebay
I purchased a new 8-string bridge on ebay a few months ago. The guy's name who makes them is Ryan and his e-mail is rrukavina@bresnan.net He had 6 or 8 string bridges. It was a brass base with a Stainless insert for the bearing surface it was held down with 3 screws, polished, pretty nice. I don't s...

Interested in all parts
I just sold my doubleneck 1952 Fender for $360 on ebay in January, got screwed on the deal... I should have had a reserve on it. I made new control plates and bridges and installed Bill Lawrence pickups because the original hardware had been trashed, pickups removed holes drilled and cutouts made. A...

pay off Novak
I was told that you have to send a check to Ralph Novak every time you build a fanned-fret guitar for someone... I'm sure Alan would know if that's true. I recall that it wasn't much of a price to keep him happy. I've never built one before, I guess I'm content with the inherent intonation problems.

call Bill Ray
You know Bill Ray used to work for Shot back in the old days. I haven't spoken to him for some time, but Bill at Rayline could possibly help with identification. His son David could pull up the pictures and show him. Bill is not online much, he's too busy in his workshop... I think the link to Rayli...
