Hi Herb, How bout a combo style approach? You tab out a whole song, say "Under Your Spell" in a complete form, then maybe you identify some "alternatives" for some (or all) of the song parts. Maybe a few different places to play the same intro melody, cliche lick, or whatever. Or...

Thank you for replying, Wiz. Currently there are applications for our work that require the use of IE, so I'm trying to find one that will work with IE. I didn't make that clear in my initial post.

Jon and Paul,
Thank you both for your replies. The pictures Jon posted showed me exactly what I wanted to see. (how big the birthstone, and how much of the nose it covered)
Thanks again.

Thanks for the replies, I wondered if the strings could handle going a step up or down, but I guess that's all they do "over there in pedal steel land." I'll give those a try and see how they sound...and I'll start working on my 'pull' technique.

Major7th tuning?

I normally tune to C6, 6 string variety (CEGACE). Is there such a thing as a major7th tuning? I want to strum a major 7th chord (not just 3 strings) on one song. What are y'all's thoughts on the matter?
Thanks

Walter is tops, I agree. He has set up my electric guitar, fixed a broken neck on my acoustic, handmade a nut for my oud, not to mention how much I like his smarta** brand of humor! With Walter and Jon side by side you can take care of just about everything.

Thank you gentlemen, for your replies. I was mainly thinking of the intonation adjustments, but am glad to hear about the other factors. I know there must be "science" at work, but why are there adjustments on (some) electric guitars, but not on (most) acoustic guitars? Aren't the same pri...

Guitar Setup? (underarm guitar)

Could someone describe the process used to adjust bridges on spanish-style guitars? I had my Gibson SG 'setup', and I know all of the strings needed adjustment, but I'd like to know more about the specifics of what was happening, how it was determined they needed adjusting, and how they did that. A ...

"Blue Hawaiian Steel Guitar" for me. I love that record! Also, except for the tepid vocal track stuck in the middle, "By Request" is an incredible album, great song choices, and a mellower, moodier feel to it. If the vocal accompaniment and 'string sections' aren't your thing, yo...

I didn't realize that was John Hughey on Dicky's Highway Call album. I love that record.

Here is what AMG lists as Mr. Hughey's credits:

Karlis Abolins has a program that should work. You can choose the tunings, or enter your own. Here is the SGF thread: http://steelguitarforum.com/Forum5/HTML/006757.html and here is the link to his page: http://home.comcast.net/~k.abolins/guitarmap.html [edited to remove 'copedent' from a 'no peddle...

old reverb 'unit' from Sunn amp, what now?

I had an old Sunn 112R that "passed on" recently, and I salvaged the reverb unit from the inside. It has the sticker saying it was manufactured by "the beautiful girls.." or something like that. A little aluminum kinda tray with a long spring, and two RCA jacks, etc. Is there any...

It's a song by Freakwater, called "Washed in the Blood" from their "Springtime" cd.

I can't post a file, but I've made a small (1.5mb) mp3 I can email.

Ron, Thanks for the reply. If my original post isn't clear, I meant to state I was playing along on an 'underarm' guitar, and was playing the chord changes, and trying to make sense of an Ab chord in the key of C. That being said, I can remember the first time I played chords through a 1-6-2-5 and t...

different kinda turnaround

I was playing along to a song that is in C, and the first change is your basic I - IV - I, then it "turns around" with C - Ab - C. The bridge of the song is a V - I type thing, staying in C. "It sounds right, so I know it's right", but I started wondering about what was happening...
