This post is hopelessly Hung Up !!!!!
I would think think the Guit-Steel is the novelty, not Junior's playing(outstanding).
I think it's easier to just raise my Deluxe-8 to waist-high and wear a Stratocaster for access to both. I wouldn't consider using a combination any more convenient.

Always loved the sound, but aren't seen much around here. What finally made me search out and buy was hearing Junior Brown.

Tom Snook -- Well-grounded, complete shielding of the body cavity and under the guard/control plate is essential -- other wise you basically have a hum antenna. Check also for any flourescent lighting on the same AC circuit or in the general area. What's your guitar look like? Can you post pics?

If I kept them all I wouldn't have room for them. Seriously, though, nothing wrong with keeping as many as you find useful to continue your musical experience. But if you keep the too many (even as investments) off the market, you prevent others from enjoying that experience. Really irks me when I h...

This post made me check both of my deluxes. The '58 pickups and blender are configured as I described above. I prefer the #2 (or neck) p/u alone - a little further from the bridge, it as nicer tone (ref. Doug's comments). I have a later model, black case, for which the pickups seem more evenly match...

The pot under the cover should turn less than 1 turn. The wheel is loose on the shaft if it turns more. Lift the wheel off the pot shaft and spread the split shaft a bit, then put the wheel back on. You don't want to lose the wheel. This pot, as it turns clockwise, will blend in the bridge pickup wh...

Flat pick plus one finger pick. Most flexible, I'm not that complicated yet, steel is supplemental to my regular guitar.

Use a meter to continuity check all of your grounds. Check output jack, maybe change it. Use a new good quality patch cable to amp. Cable failure is most common.

Hi Bobbe, from a rank amateur, before I send for the 2-knee video, can a Maverick be set up to do it (yes, I don't mind telling I have a beautiful blond which I have not out-played yet.) if I get another KL? Thanks.

Zayit (et al), please, "I'm not worthy!", especially to see my name in the same context with Don Helms. I've got a long way to go on the steel. Most of what I know to this point has come from helpful Forumites, and transposing from my guitar background. My approach to steel has been a comb...

A Fender Deluxe 8, but more interesting is my Old Kraftsman mahogany 6-string, finished like an old Firebird, c. 1940 (?), has AM radio scales under control knobs, nice sound.

A variation on Tim's, going lower:
D F# C E A C E G low to high.
This puts a 9th chord, root on string 8, in easy reach of the key you are playing, 2 frets down.

Bruce, on the gauges, the short scale should be able to support standard string gauges, note for note, if they are too slack, move up a whole note (or down an equivalent string guage), works for me.

The Sol Hoopii C#minor, very interesting: Low to high: B D E G# C# E Nice for blues, slant bar to get a major 3-5-1 chord on strings 2,3,4, a little out of tune but neat sound using vibrato. A variation suggested by Keoki: F# A# E G# C# E Strings 2 - 6 are the 9th chord, root on string 6. Fun stuff....

I noticed this sale also. Check the bid history and names for clues as to how this happened. This phenom is how prices jump and guitars become rarer in this country.

JB is the reason I got into steel, after years of thinking about it, finally had a Fender Deluxe 8 come my way. Not much steel here in CT, hard to find. Pedals or not, fantastic player.
