I don’t have much to add other than the JBL D/K Speakers sound much different than the Franklin speaker. The Franklin speaker sounds more like the E-series that came later. I personally would not consider anything other than a JBL or possibly EV speaker and that amplifier. Those things sound fantast...

The knife edge holds them on. Return springs keep them mostly in place. Sometimes you have to pull them up a tad if you bump them. No big deal.

I’m a little late to the ball game, but it is the one piece of equipment I own that faithfully works day in and day out. It’s very versatile. You can adjust almost everything. It doesn’t color your tone. It’s the one product I own that does exactly what it should do. I stumbled across it by accident...

Although I prefer the original, the Weber California is the closest one I have come in contact with.
I’ve tried tons of the neo offerings, I just can’t get what I like out of those.

Emmons D-10 P/P Wood Neck/Bolt On 8x5 SOLD

1974ish Bolt-on/Wood Neck P/P 8X5. Standard Emmons setup. Works like it should. Sounds great! Just thinning the herd a little bit. I have a new guitar on the way, or I’d hold onto it. This guitar was rebuilt a few years ago by the late Jerry Roller. The cabinet was refinished at that time as well. I...

Nathan just lives down the road in Austin. We are pretty good friends. That green guitar is certainly Dave Biller‘s old one. That’s what turned me onto the wood neck push pulls. That wrap is number six. It’s the one Niel Flanz had. He had to do some pretty extensive cabinet work to it because it ori...

Re: Love a wood neck guitar.

This one was a Jerry Roller and Bryan Adams piece of work. Great playing and sounding guitar. https://bb.steelguitarforum.com/userpix2020-03/2685_Red_D10_Emmons_PP_1_1.jpg I have the exact same guitar. Also bought from Jerry Roller. The only difference is mine has the long levers on it. I like it b...

Re: Vibronic Reverb replacement speaker.

Johnny, are you saying you have a 15" JBL in a Vibrosonic? I think that is what Dicky Overbey used. How does it sound compared to the stock 12" speakers? Ive got Dickys old Vibrosonic it certainly has an orange JBL. I wouldn’t consider anything else for these amps. I’ve tried all the ...

To me they are brighter and clearer. John Hughey was a big fan until he switched to LeGrandes, etc.

I’ve got one that sounds like a Million Bucks.

I’d try to play several and buy the one that speaks to you. That said, I naturally have some opinions. I think 1969 was one of the best years for cut tails. I can’t remember coming across one that wasn’t great. More often than not the fatback guitars are good but not as good as non fatback gui...

I had a guy bring me his GFI for a pickup change with the same complaint. I swapped the GFI lll for a 705. Not a notable change. Next we tried an E66, brighter but still dull and shrill on the high end. Lastly we tried a 12.5 Truetone single coil. It was about like the E66. He opted to stay with the...

I pick the strings way harder than I need to so I’ve had the same issue. As others have said, lower the pickups. I also use the #2 input on my Ltd. it sounds better and pads the signal as well.

Re: Direct box instead of micing amp to PA

Convience is one thing, but I have spent a lot of trial and error and money over many years trying to find an amp that gives me the sound I want, including speaker selection. This is how I get "my sound." I would not want to lose it by using anything that bypasses or eliminates my gear se...
