Eldon Shamblin's Solo Album

Does anyone have a copy/mp3 of Eldon's solo album (not S'Wonderful)? I tried western swing on 78 but no dice. I might have some interesting western swing albums to trade if you're interested.

Thanks!

I know that are two Tiny instructional books. One has the Haggard forward and is mainly old fiddle tunes. The other book is more swing oriented, and that's the one I'm searching for. I don't have a copy of Tiny at Berklee, it sounds great. I could send you any of the following if they're of interest...

Tiny Moore Instruction Book???

Does anyone know where I can get a copy of Tiny Moore's swing instruction book? I haven't had any luck on ebay. I can trade a photocopy of it for some copies of (somewhat) rare ws cd's that I have if anyone is interested.

Thanks,
Adrian

Obscure Gene Watson song

Does anyone know who wrote a song that Gene Watson sang (and put out as a single) that is title or has the lyrics something to the effect of "Now you love is as cold as the beer in Dorsey's Bar"? My great aunt and her husband used to own a bar in Northern CA (near Eureka I think) called Do...

Portland Wall of Steel II

Portland is going to be blessed with two of its finest steel players sharing the stage this Saturday night at the Eagles lodge on Hawthorne and 50th. Doug Jones and Harley James will be part of an 8 piece honky-tonk band that's playing in a benefit for children with heart disease. If you're in the a...

Thanks Chris, my band opened for the Derailers a couple of years ago here in Portland and it was great to meet you.

What I'm looking for is more of a working band's c/w set list rather than Texas specific songs (like "If You're Gonna Play in Texas")

Thanks.

Texas C/W Standards

If someone wanted to move to the Ft. Worth area and play country music, what songs should they know? What's a typical set list look like?

Thanks.

Johnny Gimble Concert Review

I caught Mr. Gimble this weekend in Eugene, OR. The venue was fairly small and intimate, although it was packed. Mr. Gimble was a fantastic performer and entertainer. He had his son Dick on guitar and two young brothers on second fiddle/tenor guitar and upright bass. I think they were the Boer broth...

Just cause I love to be a pain in the ass and play the devil's advocate- What country band in Portland (and there are some great ones to be fair) has a following of more than 10 people or can draw to justify $250-$400 for 5 sets of music? What country band puts on a great show, has charisma, or has ...

Waaalll, what I really was thinking of is traditional country lovers having to go underground to enjoy their music, not so much whether or not people have to swallow their cigarettes when there's a loud knock on the door. It's not all bad, there's a great bar off the highway in SW Washington that ha...

The new speakeasys

Last night I went to the pre-grand opening of a new "country" bar in town. Imagine Studio 54 but with a mechanical bull. Loud techno-country, I mean Top 40, flashing lights, huge TV screens showing the latest video, etc. Relating to the irony/anti-smoking thread, maybe we'll end up in base...

Trouble in Mind" changes

Does anyone have a western swing arrangement for this. I can play along using the 1-4-5 chords but it sounds like there is more going on (I'm listening to the Merle Haggard version).

Thanks

Honky-Tonk Archive

If Jesus was around today, and a pedal steel player in a country band, would he only express himself in a church of his followers and believers or would he go out to the darkest, smokiest dive to reach those who need inspiration and comfort? Picking to just the converted, or picking also for those i...

Tom- It was part of a music film festival in Portland, OR. According to the website you can order it on DVD or VHS, it's worth the money. The King of Bluegrass

Just saw this documentary about Jimmy Martin yesterday. It's very, very good. There are scenes of him hunting, performing, harrassing his fiddle player, and generally being obnoxios and opininonated. He even disses the IMA while accepting an award from them. He comes across as having more guts and p...

Here's my thought on the "Don't ask, don't tell" or "I don't mind as long as they don't make an issue of it." Does this mean a gay artist can't: Dance with their partner in public Show normal public affection (peck on the cheek or hand holding) public Thank their partner on stage...

I'll try to patch my random thoughts into a single question, here goes. Some of my favorite honky-tonk solos (by Jimmy Day, Ralph Mooney, Don Rich, Tom Brumley,James Burton,Roy Nichols,Buddy Spicher, Johnny Gimble)are fairly easy to play but soooo tasty and ....musical. I'm thinking specifically of ...
