Looking for 6 string headstock for a D10-6 conversion
I'm adding a 6 string Dobro/lap steel to my SD10 Mullen RP. I've got a guy to make the body, 1/2" thick, to place onto where the pad currently is. I am looking for a headstock and nut to complete the guitar, preferably a nice polished metal unit similar to the E9 headstock. Here's some photos o...

Adding a 6 string back neck to a SD
While my dream of owning the MSA D-10/6 will probably not fade, I'm looking into adding a six string neck and replacing the pad on my Mullen RP SD10. I've seen a post where someone did this themselves. Any advice or info on if this can be accomplished with reasonable costs? It would be nice to have ...

Tab did you get your guitar? I'm curious how people like them. I'm really interested but the price and wait time is pretty rough. I also wonder how the battery maintenance is for the voltage regulator and if you have to replace with fresh batteries to keep the dobro tone going? I've never seen a gui...

MSA Legend 10-6
I am so intrigued and have said for years I wish I could play Dobro and pedal steel easily on a gig. Do these ever come up for sale? Being relatively new I would doubt it. Does anyone else make a similar 10-6 double neck? Also, does anyone know why there's a preamp and voltage regulator under the gu...

Thanks Dave and Jerry. I get it that it's part of the realities of today's live music expectations and just natural weather events. It makes me realize why some players get a home rig and have a road rig. Kinda like a work truck and a daily driver. Maybe I just start saving for a second rig. This pa...

Need Input on a Couple Gigging Situations
After gigging regularly for the past couple years I have never had my rig in front of a pyrotechnic display. It was a sparkler fountain, or a "gerb" from what I read online. We played this little festival and the sound guy was all stoked on his new fireworks. It went off like 4 times durin...

Thanks Tucker. Yes I take that same approach too. Knowing where the Root and third is for 3rds and 6ths, helps me remember where the 1 or home is. For instance, I used to play harmonized lines but assume I could play strings 3 and 5 at Fret 3 to resolve but usually, it sounds better if I resolve at ...

Harmonized Scales Diagram
I know there are countless posts and videos on harmonized scales, but I made a little diagram that's helped me remember all the starting spots for thirds and sixths, the butter of playing the steel. I love using Joe Wrights grid format. Thought I'd share in case anyone else was interested or it help...

BMI S10 3&4 For Sale
Selling my 1979 BMI S10. I've owned it since 2011, bought from Steel Guitars of North County, and they replaced the fingers last year with parts made by BMI and installed by Jim Palenscar. Great playing guitar, great tone especially. It has a pickup likely wound by Zane Beck himself according to BMI...

Ian - I too have avoided it too long. It's very useful here. You can avoid the C pedal here by simply substituting the positions where the C pedal is used playing up one fret with only the F lever engaged. However, you lose the ease of leaving the bar in one spot to get sweet guiding tones changing ...

Finding 1 4 5 partial chords in Harmonized Scale
I've never realized you can get various 1 4 5 combos with just the B pedal on Strings 3 and 4 (and other harmonized scales involving string 3 or 6). I then realized that all the harmonies in a major scale fit in a 1 4 or 5 (or dominant 5). Thinking of the neck this way has really helped me feel anch...

Thanks Daniel and Bruce for chiming in. I'm just starting my focused practice this month and I'm already finding I'm learning what took weeks in a matter of 30 minutes. I just need to remind myself there's only a short list of stuff to focus on, and from there Pandora's box is opened up in the best ...

Thanks Tucker. Ill add the AB plus one to my list of chord locations, I wonder what that chord would be in a major context if there is one. I also may have misunderstood, but the person who said these were in a major context I believe meant that the approach was starting in a major key to find minor...

Thanks for the replies and interest. Thanks for pointing out that this is indeed major key focused. Could you point to key chord positions for those? My experience with minor keys has been limited to blues and I get by great with the minor pentatonic. For the Open Up Two Fret options, you can have a...
