Yeah you're right Bob, thanks for slapping me back to reality. The more I tinker with it, the more determined I am to keep it in it's original state. One pedal rod is broke so I will be replacing it. Putting some levers on it was my first thought too, and still might,if my pea brain can figure it ou...

Thanks Rick, info like that is what makes these old guitars come to life. The whole body of this steel is one piece, cast. With, what looks like a hard rock maple top and neck. I'm trying to figure out what the original tuning and co-ped would have been, as it was totally disassembled when I got it. W...

Pierce steel guitars

Would like to see if anyone on here can shed any info on this guitar and its maker. Found very little info doing a search. It's got a great sounding pickup, with a volume and tone control. A primitive looking undercarriage, but it works, although a little wonky pedalwise. Otherwise it's in great shap...

If it ain't broke, dont fix it.
Pretty much just use the delay and reverb on it,but it's what I still use for grab and go gigs.

Thanks for resurrecting this post,Kenny! Tone to die for. I've never seen a wrist lever like that, pretty cool. Sounds like its lowering one of the bottom strings. Can anyone shed some light on this? Inquiring minds want to know.😳

Hands and tones

I remembered I had read something about tone somewhere in the past. It appears that tone IS in the hands AND the instrument that its played on.

So says Chet Atkins. Timbre he calls it.

I think Mike and Bob have nailed it. Tone is what the player hears/wants. Sound is what the recipient hears. I'm nowhere near a pro player, and have probably agonized over tone as much as anyone, and mostly ended up thinking what's next? But after hearing a recording one day that my wife was listenin...

And now for something completely different.

Hard to classify this instrument. Interesting nevertheless. I'd like to have one.

Benders

I have used Certano benders on a Gretsch lap steel. I had them on the 2nd and 3rd strings. I was suprised how well they returned in tune while bending, with a solid nut and bridge. Never had an issue with other strings de-tuning. Like Donny said, this a pretty stout block of wood. No flex whatsoever....

Yeah Todd, I run the steel in the normal channel and use the zooms reverb and delay. The six stringers thru the vibrato channel. The stock celestion speaker sounds great, I'm still experimenting with the ir switching features going xlr to the house.

Hi Todd, I also do double duty gigs. After ditching two heavy amps,I at first went with what you're considering, A/B Switch thru quilter head thru separate cab. Worked great as long as I remembered to hit the switch before the song started.I eventually ended with up with this new fender amp,and it i...
