The Music of Mike Perlowin

I'm 3 weeks into my PSG journey and somehow stumbled onto Mike who has been so helpful in basic advice to a newbie. His recent health setbacks have largely caused to him to cease playing. Today I've been enjoying his music while away from my guitar. Anyone not aware of what our instrument and perser...

My "new to me" Universal. Rumored to be early 80's SN 1C6974 https://bb.steelguitarforum.com/userpix2020-03/19875_MSA_S12_1_2.jpg Once a universal it is now 3x5 extended E9. Haven't heard form Kevin as to its birthday if anyone knows... Collecting opinions if I should change the pickup. Al...

"Alignment of LKL with B pedal" giving me fits

Gentlemen, I am brand new to PSG. Just received my guitar yesterday. Settling in on the right way to sit at the instrument to avoid as many bad habits as possible. Assumptions: 1. of course this would be hard at first 2. learning to use A and B pedals +/- F lever (LKL on my guitar) should keep me bu...

And I was wrong about the JanRay. I think it’s a Timmy clone. Also a fine pedal. Buy the Timmy and support Paul Cochrane

Don’t know about Klon with PSG but there is appreciable difference in one unit to another in the early ones. There are now numerous “klones” being made, many based on the sound of a particular early Klon Check out Archer (3 variants), Wampler Tumnus, Vemuram Jan-Ray among others. I find my EH ...

Re: Great Choice

You chose a great guitar IMHO. If you get bored with the EXtE9 you can make it a full Uni again. If you send an e-mail with the SN to Kyle Bennett (kyle@msapedalsteels.com) he can tell you when it was born and to whom. Don't listen to anyone who tells you there is little teaching material for 12 st...

Oops

Um, I think I meant early 80's on my MSA. Another guitar I looked at was late 90's. I'm sure that makes more sense to the long timers out there

Pulled the trigger

Very much obliged to all who chimed in on this issue. This forum is a tremendous resource. I pulled the trigger on a late 90's 12 string MSA which is called "The Universal" but is a 3x5 extended E9 in reality. https://bb.steelguitarforum.com/userpix2020-03/19875_MSA_S12_1_1.jpg From Jim Pa...

Rescue the rookie!

Rank beginner. I have read every post I could find on this fine forum about what is the right guitar to begin learning pedal steel. What a great resource, you have taught me much. Therefore, a poll question: IF you had to choose between: MSA 12 string extended E9 with 3 pedals and 5 levers with MSA ...
