What a great tribute. As a "newbie" I found the forum to be a great source of inspiration and assistance.
I was saddened to see this news.
Though I never met him, his legacy of the forum (and his love of family) will be a lasting tribute to him.
RIP, my friend.

Another Flynn steel
I recently bought a Flynn steel (an SD10) made by Harold Flynn. The woman who sold it knew Harold and included the original receipt as well as a copy of the patent Flynn had for his changer mechanism. She was very short and had the legs of the steel customized to her height, so the legs were only 17...

Robocalls eradication on "landline"
We kept our landine number by porting it to a MagicJack. It's somewhere around $40 per YEAR for the service. We like the landline so we can use multiple cordless handsets. MagicJack has a great call block feature that requires the caller to enter a single digit (randomly prompted by the system to th...

Advice on setting up practice/recording space
I am looking for advice and thoughts from the community, after seeing the "Show me your practice space" thread. I am fortunate to have retired and now ready to start practicing pedal steel seriously. I have a 14' x14' room in a detached shop next to my home. It has power, heat and AC. I ki...

As this was my first steel show I really enjoyed it. Brian was a great host and I met some great folks, got to see a lot of great players. John Swain's workshop was very informative. Seeing the prototype Emmons was educational and seeing all the various steels (and a really old homebrew) was cool. T...

Sarah Jory - Last Horizon
I am just starting on the journey to play pedal steel... looking at videos of historical and contemporary players. I recently came upon Sarah Jory and now this thread... I am hoping whatever issues she is facing will pass with her coming out of it stronger than ever. The world needs more pedal steel...

Players, teachers and techs in western SC
Retired. Now a new player/learner in western SC (Seneca). Have searched and there are more than 200 forum members from South Carolina, but unless the member puts their town in their profile there's no way to know where they are from.... Anyway, just looking for someone who might point me to a local ...

Flynn SD10 questions
I have found somebody selling a Flynn SD-10 and hope to see it soon. REALLY new at pedal steel and wanting to know: 1. How well-regarded are Flynns? 2. Are parts / repair available if necessary? 3. What should I look for underneath? I looked on the forum and it seems that there aren't many out there...

Before I retired, I traveled quite a bit with video and photo gear. Another suggestion is to put address information (destination and origination) and other contact information INSIDE the case. That way if the outside label is lost, and someone like the UPS folks (or TSA folks) open the case they ha...

Too tall for playing pedal steel?
Sorry for a long post. First post, very newbie to pedal steel. I recently retired to Upstate SC (Seneca / Clemson) and have always thought PSG was a great instrument. I had played guitar, 12 string and Tele, for many years but set them aside as family took up most of my time. At the moment, I know o...

New member, new player
This is my first post on the forum! I just joined this forum AFTER buying my first PSG in order to learn it at age 67, after retiring and moving to SC. I played guitar for many years but haven't in many years. Couldn't find any local dealers so I bought an old Maverick for an OK price. I wasn't sure...
