I tried a Mesa 50/50 and was very disappointed with it and swapped up for a 2:90. Absolutely no comparison. Even at low volumes (where a 20/20 is still very clean) the 2:90 is awesome. Headroom, yes, but also excellent control of the speaker, especially bass. I bought two of the Thiel speakers when ...

Hi guys, I haven't posted in ages, but I just picked up an empty bodied NS yesterday for $30. Fortunately, I also bought the Tele that has the pickup from the Rick. I plan to pull the pickup out and put it in its rightful owner, but the biggest need I have is dimension on the nut and specs on the wi...

Is the Goodrich powered? If so, then the line level is the way to go. If you have a mixer, so much the better, too.

It is probably noise from the computer. First, the noise is probably "EM" radiation. It is probably not coming throught the cable. It's basically the same kind of thing you can get from neon lights and/or dimmer switches. You could try: Turning off the video monitor. They are usually very ...

Michael, thanks for the offer on the pedal, but then I would need to buy two replacement pots. I was hoping to go in the other direction!

Many thanks to all of you. I've got VanZandts blues models in the neck and bridge and I think what must be a Semour Duncan in the middle. I played a little last night and you know, they aren't half bad <grin>. I guess when it comes to the real pretty tone, I'm probably better than 80% of the way the...

Strat lover pickup question

I've finally come to the conclusion that the best tone extracted out of a Strat is with "vintage" style pickups. There are gillians of makes and models, for dirt cheap and an arm and a leg. I keep hearing good things about Bill Lawrence pickups. What do you think? Course I keep hearing goo...

I've had the GT-3 for about nine months now and from what I've heard, the VF-1 does everything that it does, plus... The COSM modeling works, IMO. Between amp sims and speaker cab sims, you can plug straight into a PA if you want. The effects chain, including the external loop is set patch by patch....

VF-1

I think it looks cool. You could get a mike off of an old CB, hook it up, and fake it like you were changing patches by talking to it. "Computer! A little more reverb!"

Earnst, they still show the GP-100, but the one time I looked at it, I think it was almost a grand. The new guy (newer than the GT-3) is the VF-1, is a lot cheaper than the older ones, and is a half-rack. It seems like it has everything that the GT-3 does and then some. I took my GT-3 apart and bele...

Here is a picture of the GT-3 and the GT-5. The GT-3 can be had for under $400 and about $200 more for the GT-5.

Let me know what you think if anyone tries one out.

I have a Boss GT-3. It is good -- If you like Boss effects, (up to 9 at a time) If you want amp modeling, like POD, (the TWIN is probably what a steeler would want), If you want a programmable effects chain, If you want an external loop, If you want the whole thing built into a rugged floor unit, co...

One of the reasons I like my HP is the paper handling. The print quality on any of the new printers is going to be good. Lots of people like the Epson (Seiko company). Carefully look at paper requirements for each printer. Some printers (at least when I was looking) are very limited in what paper is...

Hi Bill,

Has anyone tried using a keyboard amp? It probably wouldn't work well without a preamp to make it sound right, so you would need something like a POD or my personal choice, the Boss GT3.

I hate to get nitpicky, but hey, that's what computers are about, no? What you stated is true regarding "URLs", but the opposite is true of file paths. URL --> "////" Yes File Path --> "\\\\" Yes So the nit picky part is that the examples that you gave are not "fil...

DeArmond is right. Rack and pinion all right, built to last, except for the pot.

So if I read this thread correctly, no one has built an electronic volume pedal that sounds as good as a pot?

I like the Pod, but I bought a Boss GT3, one of Roland's versions of amp modeling. I think it is worth looking at and they also make a more expensive GT5. Two of the reasons I picked the Boss over the Pod: 1) Comes in a heavy duty floor case with switching and expresion pedal built in (extra with Po...

I'm on a Roland GT3 user list. The GT3 is kind of like the Line6 Pod in that it has about 12 amp simulations in it and you select what kind of gear you are playing it through. A number of people use PA systems and keyboard amps with it and really like it. I've tried it through a three differenc PA s...

Hi, I'm new here and am not really a steel player except that a friend of mine asked me if I wanted a "Hawaiian guitar". I've learned that you always answer such questions "yes" and figure out the details later. To my surprise, the gift included this amp. After taking it apart an...
