Bridges

I have a great Crafters Virginian. It has a maple bridge set-up,I think, and it sounds good to me right now, but I know there will come a time when I'll have to replace the bridge inserts. Are the maple bridges with the ebony tips that much better than the regular maple, and how much trouble it is i...

Dobro Licks

Is there a tape or course somewhere that actually shows how to do popular Dobro licks? There are many for the pedal steel, like Steve Palousek, who just goes over many different licks, intros, breaks, and the like. I have Cindy Cashdollar, Jerry Douglas, Rob Ickes, and so on. They teach many valuabl...

b0b,

I had no idea about the Policy. Forgive me. It will not happen again. If you will, please delete the post altogether.

Charles, Most of the instructional material (Cindy Cashdollar, Rob Ickes, Jerry Douglas)will be in the G tuning. It is the very best place to start, and there is nothing country you can't play there. I went to these sites. There is very little there in the way of used instruments for sale. I suppose the forum is unique indeed.

No Dobros for sale???

I was looking in the "for sale" section of the forum, and I noticed that I very seldom see dobros, (resonator guitars) and related equipment for sale. It seems to be 98% pedal steel stuff. There seems to be lots of dobro players around. Is there a site somewhere for dobros that I'm missing...

I've been learning now for about two months. I play pedal steel, so scales are not new to me. I ran out and bought instructional videos from Jerry Douglas, (very advanced, but it does make you try very hard.) Rob Ickes, (Talks much too much and goes very fast, and tells you right out that he does no...

Fluxcapo

How many of you have tried the Fluxcapo? I don't have a capo for my Virginian yet, and I was wondering how it is. I heard it is what J Douglas uses. Not that that makes it the best, but it is a strong endorsement. Opinions on other capos for a square neck would be welcomed.. ------------------ Steel...

Are Beard and FOTW the same???

I seem to be having trouble getting items I ordered from Folk of the Wood. They are always out of stock. I thought this was a reputable place. They have my credit card number. Is Paul Beard part of this outfit, or part of Resophonic Outfitters? I'm now trying to get a simple Webb strap. Who makes th...

Straps from Folk of the Wood

Has anyone had any experience with the type of straps sold by Folk of the Wood or Paul Beard? I'm finding that locating a good strap is more difficult than I thought it would be. Looking at pictures, It seems to me that most of the straps could interfere with the bar hand when you play close to the ...

Sit or stand?

Well, I bought a Virginian, a few instructional tapes, and I can fuddle my way through a couple of songs...but I do it sitting down. I don't even have a strap. Is it hard to get used to playing standing up, and is it easier that way? Are there any straps that seem to be better than others? Is there ...

I ordered some Propiks. They are alright, but the slanted tips soften my tone a little too much for my ear, and they are a bit to thin. Just my opinion. I could live with them, if I didn't have my '41s. I guess it's all a mater of preference.

Is it possible?

Do you think it's possible to love the dobro as much as you do your steel? To me, the sound of a well played steel is like music from Heaven. Really, there is nothing in this world as beautiful as when Buddy plays something like, Danny Boy", or "Greensleeves". I am a 57 year old man, ...

Forbidden Subject!

While getting ready to play earlier today, in a moment of stupidity, I dropped my bar right on top of my new Virginian. It is a Scheerhorn stainless, and they have sharp edges. As luck would have it, it landed on a polishing cloth I had just placed on the guitar. The guitar was alright, but it could...
