That's the idea of what I'm trying to do, Johnie! Maybe about half that extra length, though. Can you share what you used to make it?

DIY customizing to slightly lengthen a tone bar?

I have some 3.25" and 3.5" tone bars, but the 3.25 feels too short and the 3.5 feels too long. I can go into more detail, but that's not the heart of my question What I'm interested in trying is to add some kind of plastic/rubber-like polymer like "Sugru" to add just a little rou...

Maybe I’m taking the wrong approach by trying to make the 7 stop at a G - I’m thinking it might be possible to do a 1/2/7 string raise with a Wolf’s half-stop to retain a F# to G raise on 1 and 7 (with a firm half-stop provided by the wolf half-stop, and the 2 string being at a 1/4 tone at thi...

I feel like the 1/2 raise/6 lower is something that is found on E9 10 strings more often than a U12, and that the D string has something to do with it? I’ve never had anything but a U12, so my brain doesn’t think in terms of having easy access to a D string...

Thanks for your input, everyone! I’m leaning towards changing my LKV to get the string 1&2 change, at least temporarily to see how I like it. In the future, I’m thinking of moving the Franklin pedal (7 now) to a “0” position, and then maybe moving a less-used change to be a right-footed ...

For instance, is there anyway I could make my current LKR 1&7 raise into a 1,2&7 raise, but where the 1&7 would stop at a G as a half-stop, while the 7 would remain at G while the 1&2 continued to E and G# at the full stop position? (With the understanding that the 2 would be at a 1/...

string 1 & 2 raise on knee - seeking suggestions

I’d love to set up an existing knee lever for a whole step raise on string 1 and a half step raise on string 2. Anyone have any suggestions on how I might modify my current copedent, to lose the least amount of versatility while gaining that change? It’s a U12 GFI Ultra 7x5. Thanks! https://bb.s...

I really like my Xero brand shoes. I have 2 pairs of their "Hana" shoes that have very thin soles and let me really feel where the pedal is. I didn't originally buy them for pedal steel playing (they're my everyday casual shoe), but I have ended up using them exclusively when I play. https...

i'm still a fairly new player (about 8 months now) and still in full-on learning mode, but i've recently been playing around with the LKV B->A# change, and even added another pull rod so that I have it in the lower octave as well (string 5/9 on U12). * i use it for melodic licks - anywhere you're pl...

i'll have to respectfully disagree about roman numerals - in the nashville numbering system, sure, drop the roman numerals, and if you're playing in nashville or country music, or for producers or songwriters or other players who also work in country, sure - stick with arabic (normal) numerals. but ...

Someone was asking about the scratchy pot on one knob, so I made this video to demonstrate: https://youtu.be/pZ2TfLLtLRw It's only audible (and just barely) when you're adjusting the knob with the volume pedal wide open, which I can't imagine would ever happen in the middle of a performance or recor...

Georg - I actually started looking for a compressor because of reading you recommending the LMB-3 elsewhere in the forum. And it occurred to me just after writing my most recent reply that what I was suggesting would mean putting the compressor after the volume pedal, as you say. Since then, I had a...

Jim - do you know if there's a way to cross-post on the forum, rather than start another thread in another section? I considered posting in "Recording" (because people who do a lot of pedal steel recording would most likely be familiar with the answer), but it's also about getting the sett...

Thanks, Georg. That's very helpful advice, and might save me from fruitlessly pursuing this for too long. I'm going to keep working on it and see if the results are to my liking. When I got this compressor, I realized that the worst-case scenario (not being able to hone in on the "chink" s...

requency range of "pick" sound? - TC Electronic HyperGravity

I'm playing around with a multi-band compressor (customizable toneprint for the TC Electronic HyperGravity pedal) to attempt to slightly compress the entire frequency range (pre-volume pedal), but compressing the range with pick-noise, especially of the pick-blocking variety, a bit more, with a fast...

I’ve been leaning on my current RKR a lot for getting those “D”s back in for some E9 7 chord sounds. I’d have to look it over and see what I’d lose changing that - I guess I could just add the other raise for the 10 string to the RKR. I’ll play around with it a bit on the SteelSideKick a...
