New Sierra has been extremely stable for me. I don't experience the same tuning issues I had with a GFI Ultra. I've tried all the tuning schemes and compensators. I ended up using equal temperament on the New Sierra. No need for compensators or workarounds or chord voicings to avoid. It works great ...

I had the opposite experience.

I bought a GFI Ultra from Billy Cooper about 5 years ago. A while after my purchase, I asked them about the tunable split on the 6th string. Billy Cooper knew exactly what I needed. They sent out the parts and instructions on how to install it.

I had a jb3 for a while. It was so noisy when the guitar wasn't playing. I couldn't live with it. I think all the janglebox models are similar.

There's a mod where you add a 2nd pot that supposedly allows you to alter the taper. In my experience it does modify the taper but only in a small range of the volume pedal's travel.

I eventually removed the mod and just got a new pot. I believe I got the one Tom Bradshaw sells.

I'm enrolled and it is the best course I've taken. It's not all roses though. Here are a few things I didn't like: - Holy moly the vibrato. Too much for me - Overly sweetened tuning can make some voicings sound sour - Some videos are extremely short - Expensive Positives far outweigh the negatives. ...

Thanks to everyone who responded here! Happy ending is, I discovered my pedal steel, a Ross Sierra, comes with one of those spring loaded adjusters. I was able to fiddle with this and get my half stop feel stiff enough to stop my overshooting problem. Awesome!!! Here's a pic https://bb.steelguitarfo...

Half Stop Feel Accuracy

My RKR lowers string 2 to D at the half stop feel and to C# when fully engaged. The half stop is timed very accurately. When playing (as opposed to tuning up), I find that I consistently overshoot the half stop feel and end up with a D that is a little flat. My question is, should I just keep practi...

I also installed and later abandoned the Myrick mod. It did change the volume curve a little but I'm happier without it.

I have a boss volume pedal with a 2nd knob that controls the minimum volume.

I believe B + RKL split to get G on 6 is more common. On a GFI the split is done with an additional pull rod.

I've had good luck adding compensators.
Another option is raise helper springs. They can lessen cabinet drop.

It could be your guitar. I struggled with sour chords early on. I eventually discovered my problem was cabinet drop. It took a while to find this as when I tuned my changers I was only looking at the string being changed. Here's what I discovered that helped me get in tune: When activating A & F...

Converting 6 string guitar tab to pedal steel tab doesn't sound useful to me. i.e. I've never had a need or desire to play the same part on both of those instruments. YMMV!

Peaceful Easy Feeling solo might be the one exception.

Did you change that string recently? Moving to a different string gauge can result in a changer not having enough travel to accomplish the change.

If you're using a volume pedal, you wont want a compressor.

My most used pedals / effects are overdrive and chorus. A chorus pedal with a mix control works best IMO.

One thing I'm interested in trying is the ElectoHarmonics organ simulator.
