After reading my post again I realized that I might have implied that Mike is not one of the finer players today. Not so. Definitely one of the best. Kudos Mike!

Mike Daly in International Musician

I was pleasantly surprised to see a feature article on Mike's great release, Renascence, in the monthly union magazine. Anyone who hasn't heard this great record should check it out. Congrats, Mike, on a fantastic project featuring some of the finest players today as well as yourself. Cheers!

Thanks Larry. I guess we will never know the complete story. I have often thought that if this wasn't Weldon's guitar then what happened to it? A mystery for someone else to figure out. The guitar sold and a donation to the Steel Guitar Forum is on its way. You can now close this thread...

Hey Jeff, I have had other black push-pulls but in 1994 that would have been this guitar. At the time I was playing through a Session 500. Those amps had lots of robust low end. Love playing through them, as long as you have a team of folks to carry them around for you. Nowdays the small amps are so...

Thanks Bill! Do you own that guitar Nick? It seems that a lot of the Emmons guitars of that era could fall under the category of one of a kind. Very cool looking cabinet.

Another great record (I still call them records) from Joe! Joe's knack for picking interesting material is still evident here and his touch and tone are unmistakable. He has a unique voice in the world of steel guitar. Great playing, production and a snappy dresser to boot. Kudos to you Joe.

It's no problem Garry. I'm grateful for your input. I will take you up on your idea to start a three row thread in Pedal Steel.

That's cool and interesting, Garry. I wonder if there are others? Are there three rows of screws? Is there a functional reason for the third row? Did you buy it from a dealer or from an individual? Would it be possible for you to take a close up photo of the end plate and then of the changer from th...

I agree Brendan. For those that like a lot of steel guitar on classic country recordings this record will not disappoint. Sounds to me like a ZB. Also, has amazing sounding reverb (EMT plate) Sounds like California country music 20th century style. Great job Dave!

That is true Lee. I bought this steel from Jim Loessberg in the early 90s and Jim purchased it from Rick Price. I asked Rick what happened before that and he told me he purchased it from guy named Tiny Williams who got it from Forrest Culpepper. I think all of these guys are from San Antonio. That i...

Hey Herb, when I saw Danny Gatton playing with Larry Hosford out in California in the late 70s he was playing pedal steel with him. He employed the same flat pick and one metal fingerpick technique. Although, now that I think about it a little more, he might have been using his bare finger. I'm not ...

Thanks for the replies. The front plate says, "DC Custom Houston, TX." I know the photo is a bit dark. I thought it looked like a knock off of a Sho-Bud as well. The airplane fret markers were what caught my eye. Have never seen that.

Holiday Concert and Inspiration

Just a quick note to wish all Forumites a happy holiday and tell you about a concert I played the other day for Eldie Weisner. Eldie is 97 years old and was a steel guitarist around Austin, TX for many years. He is in an alzheimer's facility now. Bill Kirchen and I played a little 30 minute concert ...
