That's a pretty neat idea, but honestly I thought it sounded pretty wanky, not very musically pleasing. Listening to the demo (around 6:00), some of the capabilities were demonstrated, but it just was not very pleasant sounding as an instrument. It might have been nice to have someone actually play ...

Alice in Wonderland - E9 Pedal Steel

Here's a short arrangement I put together of Sammy Fain's theme to the 1951 Walt Disney animation Alice in Wonderland. Not quite the Bill Evans version, but still a bit stylized taken from the original film score.

Hi Andy, That Mullen is a real dazzler with that quilted bigleaf front apron! Looks almost as nice as something you would do! On the Crossover, maybe you recall we discussed this guitar a few years ago on forum prior to my selling it. I have a couple other questions though pertaining to the changer ...

Wow! A flash from the past seeing the very picture of the tear down I did of my old Crossover. I thought that layout of the cleaned up changer parts looked awfully familliar  It brings back memories seeing that picture again. Neuropathy

Ben. Ideopathic Neuropathy was the diagnosis I got for my foot pain. "Ideopathic" because they couldn't find anything specifically related to known causes (Diabetis, vitamin deficiency, alcohol abuse, etc). In my case, the pain was more or less in the center of the transverse arch, a coupl...

Yes, the soles are pretty thin and flat. Also, I wouldn't say there was an excessive amount of empty toe space sticking out. These are pretty close to just playing in socks and still have some protection on your feet. Dave Sagner wrote: and think raised heels are genuinely bad for my feet and those ...

I bought my first guitar, a new Sho~Bud Pro-1 back in '74. It had 3 pedals and 2 knee levers, both knee levers on the right (Eb, F). Many years later, I added 2 knee levers on the left, but didn't want to re-learn the existing E levers on the right, so I left them as is and I doubt I would ever chan...

Nice, inexpensive shoes for PSG

I've been playing mostly in stocking feet for a while now and have been developing some issues with pain in my left (pedal) foot, mostly after extensive playing. Wearing tennis shoes, dress shoes,(or worst case, boots) just wasn't working out for me, though that did relieve the pain issue. Just didn...

4-note chords

I recently edited this post and wanted to emphasize that a number of the chords shown call for a four string grip . Personally, I went from three to four picks not too long ago, and the transition was not all that bad. There is no call for fancy single string work with the ring finger in this song, ...

Darn That Dream - E9 tab & tutorial

Here's a nice Jimmy Van Heusen song I worked up for the E9th pedal steel. it's 32 bars, AABA format and the two attached PDF files cover both the A and B parts. If you are interested in the details on this, I would strongly encourage you to go to the YouTube I published with a short performance of t...

Hi Jeff ... Yes! That's it, and your tab is quite clear. Thanks a ton! I guess the "seasick" lick wasn't really the best description :\ . That little phrase Tommy does on the steel has just an exquisite amount of tension, and is placed perfectly. Unfortunately for me, the "G" lev...

Very nice indeed and thanks for taking the time to put this together and post! I really like Tommy's playing and this is also a great album. There's another song on that album "Under These Conditions" that has this wicked lead into the tag on the very last chorus that he does ( the "s...

I agree. That didn't make much sense to me either. What I thought was somewhat of a convention was A B C - for standard Emmons floor pedals E - lowers rhe E strings to Eb F - raises E's to F D - lowers 9th string (D) to C# (and 2nd string D# to D, C#) X - lowers the B strings to Bb (B is already ass...

Great input, Tucker. This notion was also shared with me by another Forumite, and I think the logic is hard to argue with. I think I may also go with a "hybrid" route as you suggest giving the Emmons standard pedals the A,B,C notation and then signing the lever changes --,-,+,++ (as requir...

Looking for tablature convention naming levers (for E9)

Greetings...I'm getting ready to tab something out to put up on forum and have a general question. Since the physical lever placement varies so much from setup to setup, frequently I've seen lever shorthand in tab such as 10E representing E to Eb lever on tenth fret (strings 4 & 8 ) or 10F to re...

My Infinity has little to no hysteresis. The only physically obvious difference with other guitars I've owned is, the diameter of the axle at the nut. It's a mere 0.063". The changer also has bearings where the scissors meets the fingers. Jim, I'm Very interested in the details of the Infinity...

@Ivan. - I found the reference on the bronze inserts. It wasn't on the Forum at all, but on a YouTube I ran across called "Pedal Steel Build & Play" by Scott Finch. In the video, he talks about getting the wood to build the steel from a piece of Mahogany that washed up in a hurricane a...

The idea of using a bronze bushing insert in the finger makes so much sense, I wonder why this isn't just the universally accepted method. Regardless of whether this is aluminum finger on a steel axle, or steel on steel (or al on al, for that matter) a bronze bushing would clean that interface up. I...

Senza Fine - E9

https://youtu.be/9ALmSlH0JDo Here's a piece of Italian pop music from songwriter Gino Paoli (1961) that I worked up on E9. I strongly agree with Roger. That is pretty much my setup, though my right and left knees are reversed (no, not my actual knees , but the levers :whoa:). I started out with a Pro-I with only an Eb and F on the right knee and no left knee levers were on that guitar. Later, when I got a couple more kn...
