Reading this thread, I can’t help but think of the phrase “There is beauty in simplicity.” Music is about creating something that sounds beautiful and you really don’t need big fancy chords to accomplish that.

My Dad recorded this on VHS when it aired and we both watched it over and over. At the time, we didn’t know who the steel player was, we just knew he had technique and finesse out the wazooo. Enjoy!

I’ve spent considerable time looking for any copies of the Nashville Scene and have come up dry so far. I used to watch it every morning before I caught the school bus.

I used to sit and watch my Dad play through whole songs backing a singer on Cth and never touch a pedal. It was amazing to hear the things that came out of his amp when he did this. Those guys were playing Cth before there were pedals, so they didn’t really need them.

When I got my GFI a few years back, the pedals and RKR were all too stiff for my taste. They were easy to adjust and today they all work just right. I got so confused reading about all the different ways to tune a pedal steel. I finally sat down and got my guitar perfectly in tune to my ear, then I wrote down how each string and pedal registered on my tuner, and I memorized the settings. That’s what werks fer me!
