Re: Java-Hawaiian Steel

Here are links to two wonderful example of the Royal Hawaiian Hula played by Indonesian and Netherlands bands. Thanks to Harris Sulu for the links. The Royal Hawaiian Hula has significance in both Holland and Indonesia as it comes from the playing of George de Fretes and Rudi Wairata, the masters o...

I enjoyed it as well. Funny, his "Givson" guitar looks like a cross between a Fender and a National. :)
Yes it is and I am glad you liked the piece, I find it delighful, thanks for your input.

Indian steel guitar.

Just listened to this instrumental and thought it was delightful, it is the sort of playing that grows on you, so here is the dear boy with his piece, note the economy of right hand movement. You Tube, hope the link works. I aint very good at these things.

Cheesy, yes, but I find it oddly compelling. David and so do I, I actually like it and the steel guitar is different but it serves it's purpose, it is no more offensive than all this surf board crap I see, he seems to get a lovely earthy sound and the backing track is what it needs, my view of cour...

I played one of my old Dobro favorites, "Skokaiian" today and I hadn't realised how much this music meant to me, and I got very emotional about it, when we look back to the players that have sadly gone and what they gave to us we realise that at times we didn't appreciate them enough while...

Re: Ambient Steel

Not sure what you all will think of this, early reactions want me to go back to "Somebody done somebody wrong" songs but doing note for note what has been done before is no attraction for me. The inspiration for this was The Book of Kells written and Illustrated in about 800ad by Monks on...

Bar Control Tips

If you persevere with a regular round bar, one day you will realise you have not dropped the bar in quite a while. Its a success that sneaks up on you. One reason learners drop the bar is because they are gripping a bit too much and the bar pops out like a melon seed. In fact, you don't need a lot ...

Bar Tips

Awesome. Square one is often a great place to be. I bet you're a surgeon with a bullet bar in no time, flat. Thanks for the vote of confidence I can't say I don't envy guys with dry hands. Having dry hands is no better, I am always dropping my bullet bar, trying a reverse slant sends the bar right ...

Thank you for your reply Michael, I had looked at the tuning before, thought it would be great for playing "Na Keyi Abidja" Docteur Nico Kasanda.

Fred Lunts Tuning.

I have been looking at Fred's tuning A D F# A D F# to
enable me to practice harmonics, and as I don't particularly like C6th I was wondering if anybody has
ever mapped out or tabbed any of the Feets Rogers/Fred
Lunt music, which appears to feature a lot of harmonics

Thanks.
