Shouldn't have used the term switched. SB as the reverb is faded in. Footswitch use is irrelevant.

Maybe I'm being obtuse, but why not just use a new power strip instead of messing around with the old one? Heck for $15 they have ones that include USB charge ports, wall wort spacing etc.

Peavey Special 130 issues

I have an old Special 130 with the Scorpion Plus speaker in it. It's loud as hell but I've started having a little weirdness with it. I cleaned the pots with Deoxit -- that seems to have helped a bit. BUT, when the reverb is switched in, the amp loses mid and bass, and it induces hum. It sounds almo...

What Howard said. Got a 6 string just like it. Well designed, fine playing instrument. Basic hardware, no frills. Here 'tis. http://bb.steelguitarforum.com/viewtopic.php?t=266378&highlight=cougar Nice. I can see the lineage. Since mine is unlabeled, I'm thinking of sticking a Mercury Cougar car...

The odd part about it is that whoever owned it before the guy I bought it from put velcro (fuzzy side) all the way around the body. I suspect he had some kind of cloth draping system or maybe display boards around the steel. Maybe like modesty panels on a desk. It literally took me 2 hours and a who...

Thanks Bob. I'll probably have Jim Palenscar look at it when I get the chance. The C pedal already has a fairly long throw on it.

Cougar Pedal Steel (I think)

I finally broke down and bought a steel guitar. The previous owner thought it was a Cougar. He wasn't 100% sure since there are no nameplates or serials anywhere on it. A few internet photo searches turned up this SD-10 at Elderly that looks identical and ID'ed as a Cougar. http://www.elderly.com/it...

Thanks for the suggestion. What affect would it have on the spin-a-split pot which would seem more affected by the taper than actual pot value?

Lap Steel & Hot Rails Humbucker

I bought a cheap Rogue lap steel to goof around on and decided I wanted a beefier sound out of it than the stock single coil pickup. Also thought it would be fun to try the "spin-a-split" style wiring where the second pot changes from single coil to double coil instead of being a tone cont...

The original version of Oleo (Sonny Rollins not withstanding) from Steel Guitar Jazz {1963} had Jerome Richardson on sax doing the, uh, sax parts and Buddy being Buddy. I assume those were redone as trumpet sounds by Buddy on One for the Road. (Which I have not heard.)

If not Buddy's son, then he will get kicked of eBay for the falsehood. Not likely Rich. eBay rarely boots unless they have a LOT of reportable seller violations. Some of the Chinese eBay merchants violate eBay policies with almost every listing, get reported constantly and they're all still around....

LOL yeah for the "other" Buddy Cage.

So I'm curious now. How good a steel was Hilt? The woodwork sure looks nice.

Buddy's comment via Derek at Buddy's management company:
We got it! It's at the 9th precinct NYC. Two detectives made it happen. One (Bob G) chased it down the 2nd day after the theft for 12 years and John M went to Brooklyn to confront the eBay-er.
Both are Deadheads and Rider freaks!

$1500 on this one. But the guy won't answer my emails -- not that I really want a ZB because I don't lol.

I looked at the Rondo but it's actually $50 more when you include shipping which for my experimental purposes was $50 more than I needed to spend. Guitar Center shipped it free and I had a $10 off coupon. ;-)

I hadn't considered they were chromed plastic and they are LOL. Put a magnet on them and no stick. They sure look like metal -- right down the outline of the post.

Thanks Glenn. I'll give the Super Glue a shot. The buttons are chrome; not plastic. They look nice but I have no clue how they actually attach other than some sort of press fit. Yeah the string slots are too big for the small strings but it doesn't seem to affect the sustain. It's certainly a LOT be...

New Rogue RLS-1 arrived with loose tuning peg knob syndrome

I bought one of these to replace my old Artisan lap steel that I sold for about what I paid for it simply because I wanted something with legs. My first thought is these are an improvement over the Artisans because now they at least have a usable super hard plastic nut instead of the old fake rosewo...

Best student / beginner steels vintage and current

I thought I'd start a thread guaranteed to elicit a lot of opinions LOL. My vote for the best starter steel for the money was Russ Russell's original black student model with the solid aluminum frame. 3/2 or 3/1 I think. I bought mine for about $350 from Blackie Taylor wayyyy back when. I was impres...

Good to hear from you Albert. Mike, sorry I don't remember you but then we probably played in parallel bands. I did a lot of fill-in work on steel with a variety of bands but my main gig was fronting a country-western cover club band called Diamond Reo (before there was a Diamond Rio). We spelled it...
