Hi. How often is steel recorded directly without an amplification? And what kind of equipment is used between the steel and the table?

Has anyone tried the Fender Pro Tube series with guitar or pedal steel? I've been looking for one to try out in a store..Haven't found one yet. Would the 100Ws model of the pro Tube series be the perfect amp when both guitar and steelguitar amplification were needed? ------------------ Olli Rahkonen...

I play both my guitar and steelguitar through a Hot Rod Deluxe. On guitar the amp is great but with steelguitar the lowest wound strings doesn't ring too loud. The lower strings doesn't seem to get enough body to the sound. It may be due to the old Sho Bud pickups or something else than the amp. Whe...

Noise gates
Hello forumities! I was wondering how many of you have some kind of a noise gate system in use (rocktron HUSH for example)? At least my MPX 500 produces a slight "kochhhhhh" noise whenever the signal is routed via processor (not on bypass mode). I use the MPX processor between pre and powe...

Volume pedals&high fq
Hello everybody! Has anyone bumped into a volume pedal that causes absolutely no loss in high frequencies? I just got a Franklin volume pedal and it certainly affects the high frequencies even when its all open. Shold we just accept it as part of the pedal steel guitar sound? ------------------ ©©©©...

Tuning the neck bearably
Hi. I have huge problems with tuning the neck (E9) so that all the conversions of chords are bearable and sound atleast about right. I realize that what I am looking for is the best compromise between the mathematical tones and natures scale where for example the 3rd interval is just below the "...

Problems in tuning the RKL (E9)
Hi and Merry Christmas everybody! I have a problem with my Sho Bud Pro III RKL tuning. When I try to adjust the amount of the pitch change of RKL both 1st and 7th strings' pitch changes as I turn the screw at the end of my steel. So I'm not able to tune the actual mechanism because just 1st and 7th ...

Totally CLEAN sound wanted!
Hi everybody! I'm having hard times trying to get a really clean and bright sound out of my Sho Bud Pro III. My amp is a Fender Deluxe which I actually bought because of its strong clean sound. It worked well with my Strat but when playing with steelguitar it's impossible to get a totally CLEAN and ...

Has anyone tried to tab Franklin's licks?
I'm a big Paul Franklin fan since I don't listen to traditional country music (funny why I even play pedal steel http://steelguitarforum.com/smile.gif and Paul does some great work for example with Dire Straits. I was wondering if anyone had tabbed his work on the Dire Straits live album: On Tonight...
