Hello forumities! I was wondering how many of you have some kind of a noise gate system in use (rocktron HUSH for example)? At least my MPX 500 produces a slight "kochhhhhh" noise whenever the signal is routed via processor (not on bypass mode). I use the MPX processor between pre and power amp.
Nice Autumn days everybody!

The noise when the gate opens and closes is called 'breathing' and every gate I've ever used does it to some extent. I often use one but set the threshold pretty low to avoid notes cut off or the 'breathing' phenomenon. Finding the right point for the threshold is the trick. It should be just below the point where the guitar signal becomes inaudible.
Compression is similar in that getting just the right settings can be tricky, but I find that using just a little compression and gating out just the worst of the noise gives you better signal/noise without too much interference. The best compressor and noise gate settings are those that do their job and nothing else -- the greatest effects you NEVER heard.
