Amphenol cord repair

I have a National New Yorker lap steel that came with the old cloth cord and screw-on connector. I got a brand-new cord with a screw-on connector. It was pressure-fitted. See the picture posted by Robert Murphy on this page. At some point, the end came off the cord. Being pressure-fitted, I can see ...

Thanks. I have done this twice, but I think I'll have to do it again, in a much more detailed and repeatable way.

Is the dent significant, do you think? If the cone is cocked I can't imagine how it got that way, I was very careful with it and it worked just fine before I took it out. I had trouble getting it seated, but I didn't force it. Yes, the pickup came that way. At some point it stopped working. I let it...

For reference, I have had the cone out of my cheap Rogue resonator twice in the last three days and re-assembled it without issues. Plays fine.

I don't have a pic of the cone in place. I should have taken one. It's been reassembled now, so I can't take a pic of it in place.

Troubleshoot Beard Cone Biscuit style

Hi; I have a Goldtone resonator, steel body, round neck, and biscuit bridge. I took it apart and cleaned it, then put it back together. Now the cone is making a booming sound when I play it. Any comments would be helpful. The cone has a dent near the top, I don't know if it has always been there or ...

National New Yorker tuner knobs

I have a National New Yorker lap steel. I'm not sure of it's vintage but it looks like the instrument in this Fretboard Journal article, with the difference that mine is not clean like the one in the photos. https://www.fretboardjournal.com/columns/catch-day-1947-national-new-yorker-lap-steel/ In pa...

The field of squareneck resonator guitars seems to be a place where quality is price dependent. If you want the best, get what Jerry Douglas plays. That's not reasonable for most. You should be able to do better than the Gretsch Bobtail, though. Beard guitars offers a range of instruments at a range...

My grand daughter called my lap steel my "portable guitar" and another time, my "flat guitar." She was 8 or 9 at the time.

As you progress you will build up a library of licks that will add variety to your playing. Start watching the other acoustic slide players and learn what you can from them. I like Harry Manx. Also, you can always learn a lot from Tampa Red and Elmore James and early Muddy Waters. I assume you know ...

Wow. So, somebody just painted that? I have one of those that got left in a pawn shop window in direct sunlight. The plastic fretboard is warped and the paint is in terrible condition. It never occurred to me to just brush paint it with a random color. That's kind of liberating!

You can do what Cindy Cashdollar does; she brings a console steel (no pedals, but with legs) for the swing and country, and brings a a lap steel for the blues and folkier songs. I've seen others do the same.

That looks like mine! The only difference is my pickup covers are white. It perfectly matches pictures of a Jedson model. Somebody took the nameplate off mine, so that was my first clue it wasn't a Fender! If it's a Fender you would leave the nameplate on. Also, the headstock tuner hardware isn't br...
