Surfer Girl - Weissenborn

Post by Andy Volk »

This is from a few years back. At the time, I was influenced by Bill Frisell's version and trying to make myself just play a pretty tune without reharmonization or fancy licks.

Indeed. I can hear the Bill Frisell influence.

Very nice, it's tempting me to buy a Weissie but probably it would sit next to the dobro I never play.

Question: If you play w/thumb and fingerpicks, would that gouge up the top?

I use picks on Weissenborn some of the time and it's never been a problem. Most of the time, I generally prefer the sound without picks on Weissenborn but it doesn't usually record quite as well as when wearing picks. Here's a lesson (with picks) on how to make an expensive guitar sound like a box of silverware falling downstairs. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vWGvRyoNWB0
