replace a round neck with a square neck?
I stumbled upon a new Chinese import steel body 14 fret round neck biscuit bridge guitar with a small split in the neck. The dealer was asking $200 for the guitar and HSC. I've been looking for a squareneck steel body biscuit bridge preferably 12 fret. I didn't think to measure the scale length but ...

New CD by an old friend
Randy Archer just released his first solo CD titled "Shots in the Dark." There is some excellent steel by Dan Dugmore and Scotty Sanders prominently featured on most every cut. No, I'm not a publicist - Randy and I were neighbors as teenagers on the dirt road back in Georgia. His site is h...

Which is the loudest acoustic guitar?
Which is the loudest acoustic guitar, preferably a resonator, that you've ever seen or heard? Are there any noticeable differences in volume between body shapes or sizes? What about body materials? What about cone types - biscuit vs. spider? I'm looking for the loudest instrument available for outdo...

sound projection
Has anyone ever tried holes, screens, or louvers in the side of a resonator guitar body in an effort to get more projection out towards the audience or others in a jam session instead of up at your face?

Anybody own a Beltona Pasifika Tricone?
Just wondering if any have made it to the USA? How do you like its tone? Is it lots lighter than a wood or metal body? How does the finish look and hold up?

Biscuit bridge hardware in a spider bridge body
Has anybody ever tried installing biscuit bridge hadrware (cone, bridge, coverplate) in the place of the spider bridge hardware? I want a biscuit bridge sound and have a low end spider bridge guitar I thought I might try this on.

I saw Toy and MTB in concert on campus while I was a student at Georgia Tech around '79-'80. I was up in the nosebleed seats, couldn't tell who was playing what, didn't know what a steel was, and thought that Fire On The Mountain intro was the coolest thing I'd ever heard. Finally, 20 years later, I...

Is the string spacing on an 8 string Dobro the same as on a 6 string? I'm referring specifically to "Dobro" brand guitars.

Has anyone ever tried coated strings like Elixers on PSG? Seems like they might cut down bar noise on pull-offs, etc.

I'm working on a project to mate a Yamaha BC3A breath controller, Anatek Wind Machine, and some midi effects box to control volume. I'm using a breath controller since I'm a wheelchair user and can't use a pedal. The thing I haven't nailed down is which midi box to use. I know this doesn't directly ...

Is there a good quality cone that will drop in my Flinthill squareneck without having to rout the opening larger? Do I need a different spider to go along with it?

PSG at the Arlington, TX guitar show
Went to the guitar show earlier today and noticed more PSG's than usual. Even saw Tom Brumley in a booth shaking hands, signing autographs, and playing. I also saw the folks that used to operate Steel City in west Ft. Worth, Steve & Stephen Lamb. They're back in business in west Ft. Worth again ...

Electronic Change Of Tone
I use wrist levers to make all my changes due to a physical disability. As a result, most of the time my right hand is farther down the neck away from the bridge than normal. Is there some electronic way of changing the tone so I can get that "crisp" sound you get by picking closer to the ...

Playing Rhythm
Anybody want to offer any advice, favorite picking patterns, licks, etc. for playing dobro as a rhythm backup in something OTHER THAN 4/4 TIME? I've got a nice banjo roll that works fine in 4/4 but I get ham fisted in other times. Thanks!
