Thanks for the response, Johnny. I am still looking at speakers/cabinets. I wonder why Roland doesn't offer one that matches up with the Cube? Hmmm... Too easy I guess. :)

Extension speaker

Hey Guys,

I am considering extension speakers to use with my little Roland Cube 80XL and wonder what opinions you might have. It is a Peavey Sheffield Cab with 1x12 Eminence Red Coat THE WIZARD speaker. The guys is asking $115. Should I consider?

Thanks,

Jim

I got to try my 80XL on a gig last week and wanted to let you guys know how much I liked it. Great tone! We were doing an outside gig and I used the direct out to the PA, so I didn't get to test in under its own volume. I was supposed to play it Saturday night indoors to test that, but the bass play...

I just bought a Cube 80XL and have used it on one gig. I love the tone of it and it has a direct out if you need to run into the PA. Highly recommend.

Hey Guys, Got my Cube 80XL yesterday and am loving it! Really nice transparent tone. I've got a rehearsal Monday night, a gig Tuesday during the day and another gig Saturday night. I'll give you a report after that. I am thinking about Fred and George's ideas regarding using a 15" extension cab...

George and Robert, Thanks for the info. I just remembered that I still have a couple of direct boxes that I haven't used in a while that should do the trick nicely. George and Fred, I love the idea of using a 15" external speaker for larger gigs. But I wonder... Doesn't this affect the impedanc...

Hey Robert,

I just ordered a Cube 80XL and saw that it had a 1/4" line out. Does the tip ring sleeve take the place of an XLR cable? My old amp has an XLR and not 1/4". Do you use and adapter of some kind to hook into the board? Thanks! (BTW, what part of NC are you in?) Jim

After reading so many good reviews (especially Mickey's) I just ordered one of the Roland Cube 80xl's from Musicians Friend. They had sent me a 10% off coupon with no shipping and it came in at about $330. As soon as I use it on a gig I will report. I played thru our rhythm guitar player's NV112 las...

New guy here... What the heck is a zero pedal? Sounds like the pea splitter that the mess seargant had me running around to the other mess halls looking for back in the 60's.

Johan, I am an old country swing fan, but Man! That sounds super. I am playing with a couple of country rock/blues based bands around town and will try some of that myself. Thanks for sharing. Jim

I've been playing thru my V22 lately and am liking it a lot. I run the treble on about 2, mid on 4 and bass on 10. I have played guitar thru a V5 and hated the sound. Very honky mid range. YMMV Jim

Robbie,

I don't have a double neck so I have to work with an E9 only. I know some of the sounds are the same, but it just doesn't play or sound the same as my C6 lap steel.

Thanks a lot for some great suggestions! Right now I am doing what Jeremy suggested. I have put my lap steel on a keyboard stand in front of my PSG. It looks kind of cluttered and funky, but works. I tried putting it at a right angle, but have a hard time (old man back) turning to play it. I also wa...

psg and lap steel on same gig

Hey Guys, Another question from the pest... I am starting to play my (E9) Stage One PSG on gigs more and finding that I miss the sound of my (C6) non-console lap steel. I'd like to use both on gigs, but can't seem to find a way to make it work physically. I don't like it on my lap, having to pick it...

Volume pedal question

Another newbie question here. (Thanks for all the good past advice!) I have been playing Dobro for the past few years and last year took up lap steel. Then the bug bit and I got Doug to build me a Stage One PSG which I am really having fun with. I am using an old Boss volume pedal which is not the b...
